Best Christmas Present Ever!!

Hi Everyone,

First, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and that everyone is enjoying the holidays!

So....my fiance gave me the absolute best gift ever for Christmas this year! I opened the gift and there was a cat carrier, a food dish and some cat toys! Then he pointed to the tree and sitting on one of the branches was a gift certificate from our humane society!

He paid the adoption fee for a cat for me!!!!!!

I'm soooo excited to finally have a cat!

I am super happy to say that a cute little white 5 month old kitten will be the newest member of our family next week!

We are unsure of a name for her yet....at the shelter they are calling her Cottonelle but we haven't decided on a name yet.

She is getting spayed on Monday and we will take her home on Wednesday.

She will need some TLC because she has A LOT of mats in her fur (which I find strange since she is a short-haired kitten?). She was brought in as a stray so they do not know her history. The vet is going to check the area where the mats are but they think she will likely need to have the areas shaved.

We are very happy to be adding this cute little girl to our family.

Yay that is the best present ever

Yes, short haired cats can get mats if they are on a poor diet, overweight and can't clean their backs or if they were outside in the winter as a stray, then are brought inside, especially if they have a thick undercoat like my Sweet Pea has. A good brushing and quality canned diet should fix her up just fine

I have no idea what the poor little thing went through to get so many mats but I will make sure she gets a brushing regularly and to feed her a great wet food.

She won't have to worry about being neglected anymore! (Once I get her of course!)

Your right! That is the best ift!!

Maybe u could ask the vet to shave the mats while she is under anesthetic rather than traumatize her later on by shaving her.

Give that fiance of yours a big hug from me please. What an amazing gift!!
Please make sure to introduce your new kitty to your dogs very very slowly. Keeping them separated for the first few days is ideal. After that remember you can control your dogs; you can't control your kitty. Therefore keep your dogs on short leashes when you let the kitty out to explore. You can judge for yourself if your pups are going to try to go after her or not. It may take some time for them to get along together. Or not. Also always make sure your kitty has a high spot to escape to where the dogs can't get her.
I know you didn't ask for advice. I'm bad.

I don't mind the advice...I'm glad to get it.
We plan on doing a VERY slow introduction with the dogs. They both do not mind my parents cat so I know they have the ability to be great with our new kitty.....but I will not take any chances.

We have a sun-porch on our house so the kitty will be staying in there for the first few days, we installed a cat door so that the dogs can't get out there. Thankfully the dogs have their crates so the kitty will be able to explore the rest of the house on her own time.

Any tips that anyone has for a slow introduction are greatly appreciated!

Awww, what a great xmas present and your bf was so thoughtful about giving you the essentials first then a gift certificate so you could pick out your own kitty.

Looking forward to pics of your new little girl.

Congrats great gift but even better for the kitty. Now her biggest problem will be too much love and getting spoiled. Much better lifestyle for her
