TPLO Recovery

A quick question. I have a 3 year old Lab and she has just undergone TPLO surgery. Surgery seem great. My question is, she now seems very lethargic and spends a lot of time sleeping. She doesn't appear to be in pain. No whining or crying however, just seems terribly out of character. Is this normal? I know when I am not feeling well, I tend to sleep so I was wondering if this is a natural reaction. I have attached a photo of the way she normally looks. Thanks.

How recently? When we had our springer's hips replaced she slept more than usual for the first couple of weeks after each surgery. She was pretty alert when awake, though. Lethargy isn't always a bad thing, though, especially when the dog is supposed to stay calm and quiet to let the surgical repairs heal.

If you're seeing a disturbing amount of lethargy more than a few weeks out from surgery, it never hurts to call the surgeon's office and ask them for advice, if only for a little peace of mind. If it's just been a few days since the surgery, your dog may still be recovering from the anesthesia--but again, if the degree of lethargy seems excessive to you, a call to the vet's office might be helpful.

Thanks for the info. It is just coming to 10 days since the surgery. As you said, maybe not a bad thing.
