Little Miss Sunshine

If there was ever a movie about how dysfunctional families work, this is it. I loved it. The characters are all pretty well developed and almost all of them end up at rock bottom over the course of this movie, if not right before the movie starts. You really feel for them, and really feel that they're trying to make everything work.

It's a bit obscure and dark, but for obscure lovers, it's totally clear and not obscure at all. (My kind of movie -- nothing too hard to understand.)

I also loved the accidental team work because of the van.

Oh, the plot:
It's a family who one by one gets sucked into an 800 mile car ride so that the youngest daughter can perform in a beauty contest. She is so not a beauty queen, which is what makes the movie so charming, IMO...

It was great, wasn't it?

I love the fact that they never show you Olive practicing her "routine"...

Yeah, I loved that too. So you have no idea what she's going to do. I was sitting there thinking, she's going to blow us all away, isn't she?

I know!!

But then, if you take into account what grandpa is like, it's almost logical her routine would turn out the way it did!!

"I am the foremost Proust scholar...." ! ! ! !

Still laughing, and I saw it over a month ago on a plane! People around me thought I was mad...

Yeah, I feel so bad for the silent guy (sorry, can't remember names). That just sucked. I liked the dynamic between him and the uncle though. Very funny.

The little girl got an oscar nomination, eh? The grampa too. And they edged out dreamgirls for a Best Movie nomination! I'm so excited for them!
