new pet food = diarrhea
My neighbor has a 9 month old goldenpoo and just switched from puppy to adult dog food.
For the last several days, her dog has diarrhea. She is considering changing her back to the puppy food. Anyone have any experience changing from puppy to adult food and having this type of reaction? I never had issues with Muffy when we switched... thanks S |

Slow transition is always a good idea. Gradually changing the food 25% at one time for a few days.

Did she stay with the same food or a different brand completely?

Are protein, fat and kcal/per cup very different? From puppy to adult you'd expect some lowering of the fat and kcal/cup in particular but too drastic a change could cause an upset. Are the main protein and filler sources different? That might do it too.
If her dog has had diarrhea for several days it's time to visit the Vet. That's not a really young puppy but there still could be the danger of dehydration. There might be something unrelated to food going on. She should take a stool sample in to test for parasites, giarrdia comes to mind and it could be as dangerous as Parvo. Several days means at least three days in my mind, far too long and not to mess about with. |

Just a quick update...
I changed to a different food and everything is fine now. Thanks for the responses. S |

In future you could use pure pumpkin. It works both ways for the runs or constipation. (not pie filling but pure pumpkin)

That's true Winston - Good one! Here's an article that we have about this as well. http://www.pets.ca/dogs/tips/tip-75-...-constipation/
