My dog ate wax paper

Hi, All.

I'm new to the forum. I signed up to ask more experienced pet owners what do do as my 4 yr old lab mix ate a wad of wax paper this morning on our walk.

Sorry I had to laugh as I have a lab who will eat her own leg if she could....
I would just keep an eye on your pup. It will likely come out the other end..

Is it normal for your dog to go after things like that on walks? I'd be worried that it might have been wrapped around something, but if it was just plain waxed paper (unless it was a huge amount of paper) I wouldn't worry about it and just, as Winston suggests, keep an eye on your labby.

Our Brier never grew out of his 'paper fetish' stage and we have to watch him like a hawk or he'll snarf up every bit of paper or thin plastic that he can get his lips on.

I would keep an eye on your dog to made sure she is pooping OK , if was real big piece of wax paper I would call the vet just to made sure it was there is nothing to worry about so you can ease your mind . It cost nothing to ask a vet a question . I would love to see photo of your dog when things has settled down.

As others have said, keep a close eye on your pup and monitor poops for the next few days to ensure that wax paper comes out. A blockage is unlikely but could still occur.

Too late for this advice but in future if you're pup eats something he shouldn't, I would induce vomiting as long as the item ingested will not do more damage coming back up (sharp items, etc) and you do this within two hours. Give your pup some food to protect the lining of stomach and then hydrogen peroxide (1 tsp/10lbs). Your pup will start to froth and within 15-30 minutes should vomit.
