fish and bladder infections

Our little cat Inka here is currently fighting off a bladder infection, so I've been trying to do as much research as possible on the topic. I've been coming across some tidbits of information on different sites about fishy diets potentially aggravating UTI's. Does anybody have any information on this to support or debunk? Thanks!

Btw, she seems to be slowly fighting it off. Some days are good, some days are not so good, but overall she's been acting like a very happy kitty. That was especially important to me today because she and her brother celebrated their 1st birthday today!

Man, I thought this was about your FISH having bladder infections.

I guess it would depend if the fish affects the urinary pH somehow... I haven't heard anything though...

I have heard to that fish can play a role in uti's in cats, don't know much about it either, just that over the years several of the vets I use to work for all said it to...but never really said why. I don't give my cat's any tuna as I heard giving too much or even a little to cats with previous uti's as a treat can contribute to crystals and it robs the cat from taurine and if a cat is robbed from taurine it can leed to heart problems. It would be nice to know what exactly it is with the fish as soo many cat foods have fish in them.

From what I read in other articles tuna and salmon are high in magnesium and that apparently even if it's in cat food, listed as tuna or salmon it's bad. Not sure yet about salmon oil or tuna oil.

Thanks guys. There seems to be a lack of scientific data out there to support the link between UTIs and fishy foods, but the fact that there is a fair amount of information scattered around seems to support that there is at least some empirical evidence to support it.

Better safe than sorry I guess. I'll make sure she isn't eating fish regularly. To be honest, one of the reasons I started to become suspicious was that she usually had her "bad days" just after she was fed her wet food, and most of it was made from fish.
