That's a house centipede and they are our friends. They actually eat spiders and they will stay far, far away from people and food. The only time they will be near food is if it is liquid based as they like humidity and crave fluids. Yeah, I know a bit about them, I reasearched because I wanted to know what this little alien was.

Yep I agree Mochas Mum lol...Alberta is safer....well theres less a threat of freaky bugs.
I don't mind bugs, I am a lover of gardening so I just try to remind myself that most crawlies actually eat the BAD insects in my flowers so I try to keep peace with them.

I had a fit the other day when my bf found a ladybug on our counter (we've been having an infestation of them in our trailer, and I have no idea why?? But I think it's sorta cute ) and he wanted to rinse her down the sink!!!
I promptly ran over and took her outside and let her go.
I had to explain ladybugs are very good predators and help kill a lot of other pests.

As for your bug Chico....thats seriously ugly lol. I'd not want to see that in my sink either!

Teri,I do,I doand honestly the only creature that gets me all worked up is the House Centepede.
I know they are not going to hurt me,but they are just really awful looking and incredibly fast(all those legs I guess )not even the cat likes them.
I prefer having spiders in the house, they don't bother me,not much does, except these monsters.

I agree, they are creepy, and shifty like cockroaches. The cats like to chase them but I usually intervene. Sometimes when I go to run a bath, they are doing laps around the tub.

Yuck, don't think I've ever seen one here and the cats keep the spiders under control .

Omg they are evil looking
I am okay with spiders and most crawlies if I know what they are, but....something strange looking sends me over the edge.
For me, the worst of all the bugs are the stingy ones

The house I grew up in always had those things living in the bathroom. They freaked me out, but I used to always make my dad take them outside instead of killing them.

SableCollie,I catch flies, bees or whatever is trapped in my house and put them outside, these things are just too fast and I am not able to even get too close to them, maybe I have a phobia
Once when I was alone at home,I threw a phone-book at it from about 10 feet away,at least a quick death and left the phone-book on the floor for hubby..

There was a small one on my bathroom wall last night, I was watching it's graceful movements as it went over the corners, etc.

Chico lol, when my mother went to visit a particular friend for the first time, the front hall and the stairs to the second floor were littered with turned-over cups, glasses and bowls. These were spiders waiting to be dealt with by her husband when he returned from work. She was severely arachnophobic, but otherwise fearless.

Awesome website, Byrd.

Once a year, for 1-2 nights, we have these big stupid bugs (city french girl trying to explain farm stuff here ) when they go in the fields to "turn the soil inside out" these bugs come out of the soil, they're big and blind. As soon as you put the lights on outside , to are attracted by it, they bump into you, when they're on the door screen, I just flick them and they're so big they just splatter themselves on the patio deck I think they would die anyway, I only see them for 2 nights after they do the fields.

When I see a little House Centipede,I let them live, they are not too scary looking,it's the 2 Inch ones that send me in to a tail-spin.
I once sprayed one with hairspray, what a terrible thing to do but I could not go to the bathroom with that thing there
Of course it was left under a book for hubby to dispose of,hairspray and a heavy book certainly took care of him..
Now I tippi-toe in to the downstairs bathroom to do the litterboxes, check all the walls and the floor before it's safe for me to go in the same goes for the upstairs bathroom.
They also seem to be coming out of the vents in the floor...

TOADET,that would be it for me,I would be out cold
Shamrock, These bugs are not around in the winter, they come to life when it gets warm and they love the humidity and must love water since they often come right out of the drain in the sink or bathtub.
