Smile Puppy that eats rocks

Hello all,

I an new to this forum. First time so Hello.

I have a question.
I have a 3 month old poodle X (or GoldenDoodle to some). He has been eating pebbles. Every time we go out, he heads to our pool, which has pebbles all around it. Or he just digs till he finds one.
What can I do to stop this?

Welcome to the forums.

Check your food to make sure it has all the requirements. When my shepherd was eating rocks I changed the food and that solved the problem.

If that is not it then give him/her something to carry like a ball or something. Maybe she/he just needs something in the mouth.

We have two rock-eaters. They love to excavate and eat the pea gravel in the side yard and steal landscaping rocks.

I don't know how practical this will be for your situation but we did two things: We covered the small landscaping rock with a mixture of 4- and 6-inch rock...too big for them to swallow; and we added some soil and planted grass seed over the pea gravel in the side yard (actually, this is still a work in progress).

We thought the big landscaping rocks would look pretty dorky, but it's not so bad:

Maybe the same idea would work around your pool?

Is she eating the rocks, or just carrying them around? I have a puppy of the same age who likes to grab rocks out of my moms flowerbed and carry them with her.....looks really funny since the rocks are almost the same size as her! lol

Bree did that until we removed all the pebbles we can find. we also would not let her outside by herself for quit a while.. now at 11 months it is not to bad, she only does it once in a while.
you can try and teach her the leave it command, to make her drop what ever is in her mouth, it somwetimes works.. I know with Bree it helped a bit.

Welcome to the forum and I hope one of the suggestions works for you. We'd also love to see pics of your puppy.

My Eskimo loves to eat rocks, pebbles - anything on the street. He is now 3 years and 2 months and so far nothing has changed despite our best efforts. Hope you have better success - our guy is Hoover.
