Unhappy Tiger passed peacefully

I took Tiger to a new vet as my old vet had retired and I hadn't chosen a new vet until Tiger got sick a week ago and started hiding away where I couldn't find him. By the time I got him to the new vet he was in very bad shape and the new vet did blood work and an xray of his belly.

It turned out that Tiger was in renal failure that had progressed to major organ failure and the vet recommended I put him to sleep to ease his pain. After seeing the xray and the blood work results I had to agree that Tiger must be in pain and agreed to have him PTS

Tiger had deteriorated radically over 2 days and it was such a shock that he was so sick it has taken me a week to post this ... the other cats are still looking for him and Bailey seems lost without him... I just hope and pray that none of them go downhill after losing Tiger as they are now all seniors...

I miss him so much it hurts ... he is running and playing with his ball on the other side of the bridge with my dogs that he loved in life ....

the only good thing about that day was I found a superb vet who I love ... he loved Tiger and handled him very gently ... and showed me how much he cares about the animals ... not about money...

Thank-you so much for your best wishes... I worry about Bailey as she and Tiger were the same age and spent a lot of time together ... she is behaving very oddly in that she won't eat the treats that she and Tiger used to love ... she won't eat the flavour they last ate together and is obviously missing him a lot

Thanks Hazel
Bailey seemed better last night and ate the other flavour treats I gave her... she is at least eating food now so I think she will be ok...

Hi dbg:
Sorry to hear of your loss of Tiger. I have some idea of what you are going through.
I think Bailey's problem is the same as yours - she is going through a grieving period, the same as we humans do. She has lost a playmate and friend.
My son's family ended up having to part with their dog and also another older kitty, and it took a toll on them. They ended up getting a new kitty to keep the other older cat company, and so far it has worked out quite well.
We just recently had to part with our 2 senior Abbys - both of them we'd had for some 12 years. The stress has been pretty rough because we had a major move mixed into it.
So now our other 3 kitties are coping, but we notice that they are not playing with the same toys right now, and they're not using the cat furniture the way they did before we moved and before the loss of the other 2 kitties.
We expect that it's a phase that they will eventually recover from. We humans don't take into consideration that animals can end up in a grieving mode the same as we do, some more so than others.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Reg you are right animals definitely grieve when they lose a member of their animal family. I had an awful time with the kitties when Raggs died (our dog), they were very close to him and Smokey had a very hard time after he died for almost 2 months.... he finally seemed to come around to his normal self when the spring came, but I've had to give him extra attention ever since. Smokey became a sucky cat wanting love all the time ... he had never been like this before.

Thankfully they all seem to have accepted that Tiger is gone, though occasionally I see them looking in his favorite hiding spots. Bailey is back to eating any flavour of treats and has been playing with her balls and catnip mice so I think she is through the worst of it. I still miss Tiger so much I think because he went downhill so fast...

thanks everyone for your support
