I know with BB - she demolishes the small end pretty well the same as JD did - but when it comes to the larger end of the neck, basically all she does is remove the meat and maybe a tiny bit of bone, and then leaves it.

Yogi usually takes over then and practices his footwork from one end of the kitchen to the other as if getting ready for a soccer tournament, batting it with his front paws all over the place. It seems to be beneath him to chew on it.

Interesting thing would be to watch JD's teeth and gums to see the effect of the chewing action on them.
I once brought my dog Marty some beef soup bones and gave him one on the deck . Marty took a couple of licks and was done ! Maybe he didn't want to mess up his pretty white fur . That is funny about your cat , I know some cats like to play with their fresh dead mouse before eating it . I think this help made the meat tender .

Chicken wingettes or tips would be another good source of chewable and edible bone, just remove the skin.
Yep--he's currently on canned food, and I want to make sure I don't get him out of balance. So far, so good. He's pooped twice since he's had the neck and things are looking good (so to speak... ) Eventually, I'd like to get him over to raw, but it's hard to take the plunge. Still researching it, and it seems fairly straightforward, but I hate to mess with a plan that seems to be working, y'know? I lack courage, I guess

I'll have to remember the chicken wings. I like them, too, but I suppose since I love the little dude, I can sacrifice my snack for him! Might be a lot easier to find than necks, which seem to be sort of hard to find around here...

Been feeding dogs raw for over 10 years now, firm believer. It's nerve wracking the first time you jump into raw, but it's not a rocket science, simply feeding an animal Can't say I've ever switched a cat to full raw, lots of people have so there's no shortage of folk that can help. Has she ever had a mouse? I've been tempted to try feeding whole mice to my minpin, but there's just something about watching him eating a whole prey item.

If your cat is eating raw, you're lucky. Most cats are creatures of habit and don't like to switch foods, especially to raw. If poop is all good, there's no reason you can't feed a bit of raw here and there. Chewable bones are the best for teeth and gums, natures toothbrush.

Definitely no trouble with finicky eating here. JD is an equal opportunity nosher! I think it's because of the chronic respiratory thing--not much sense of smell, maybe?

He's never had a mouse that I know of, though we do get them in the basement this time of year, so perhaps he's been having fun while we sleep! The basement is exposed on the south side and I know he sees mice and shrews and squirrels and chipmunks on the rocks just outside his sunny windows. "Cat TV", we call it. I know he'd love to get his paws on one... And if he did, I really wouldn't object to it. But, yeah, it would be a little hard to watch.

We might have had a rat earlier. The mesh we use to protect the pipe that drains the ground water from around the foundation fell out sometime this summer. We replaced it as soon as we noticed, but a few weeks later, when I was flushing the pipe, I took the mesh out and a drowned rat floated out. I was creeped out and sad at the same time... But I think that the emergency drain in the basement floor comes out through the same pipe somehow, so it's possible the poor little blighter made it into the basement at one time or another. It certainly would explain JD's sudden interest in that side of the basement--normally, there's a closed connecting door, but he started spending a lot of time staring at the crack under the door this summer Not sure if he wanted to make friends or go hunting, though. He is a sociable little guy!
