"Sessions with Cesar" reviews please

For those of you not in favor of Cesar's training methods please take your comments somewhere else.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who have registered for the online training course called Sessions with Cesar could you please share your experiences? Feel free to PM if you aren't comfortable posting here.

I can't find a local trainer that seems to be very good, so I don't think spending $60/hr with them would be very wise. I went to several trainers for a free consultation, and was not impressed by any of them. I have been working with a trainer that lives 6 hours away who does a lot of rehabilitation training and he has been extremely helpful. If I could clone him I would! Traveling 6 hours each way is hard on the dogs, not to mention the wallet. I can buy 6 months of Cesar's training sessions for half the cost of one trip to the trainer. So that's where I am at.

Any off topic comments please PM me!

cesar, my hero.....I love the man and his methods, I have a couple of his books and most of what he says makes sooooo much sense!!! I follow a few of his way, like no "touch , no talk , no eye contact", I now make Brina calm down before we do anything and man, what a difference, I slip her collar up higher on her neck when we pass lots of kids because she wants to go play with them, it works wonderfully...

I would LOVE some copies!! Please!

I would love to have Cesar come to help, and I was looking on his website to find somewhere to "apply", but I couldn't find anything and got all distracted with the Sessions training. His website is offline right now. I know Cesar visited the rescue that I got Roxy from, so maybe they have some contact information.

To start of.. I have no idea what you're talking about what are these courses? Are they video conferencing with you and Cesar? His assistant? Are they just a generic online course?

It is not video conferencing. It is pre-recorded training sessions with demonstrations of technique. In the course you get to choose which subjects you want to work on. Kind of generic, but kind of personal.

Well then it can't hurt to try it. Just keep in mind some of it might not apply to your dog and is likely quite generalized, but I think any learning opportunity is always a good one. If that's all it is, then you might also look into DVDs produced by a number of good trainers. You can learn a lot and it's a great option if you don't have access to a good trainer within a reasonable distance from you.

Some names that pop into my head.. Susan Garret, Ivan Babanov, Michael Ellis (all his DVDs are available through Leerburg.com), and I'm sure CleanRun.com would have a nice selection as well.

Don't know about the courses, but if you take them please let us know how you find them.

What kind of problems are you having?

That I will! I am going to sign up tomorrow if I haven't heard anything negative about the sessions like "it's too impersonal to be useful". That's mainly what I worry about, but I have faith that using video demonstrations probably helps out a lot.

Behavioural problems are not always about leadership. Some times it's just good ol training. A lot of what Cesar does works not because he's a leader, but because he manipulates the dogs' behaviours, and then him and his marketing gurus attribute the positive changes to leadership.

Your dog can have all the respect in the world for you and still bark his head off when the correct stimuli sets him off. I'm all for leadership, but if you're having behavioural issues, tackle the behaviours.

A total waste of time. I have a pirated "Mastering Leadership" 3dvds and it was hours of my life he owes me back. The few good bits of advice were flanked by dangerous and toxic nonsense.

i have to say, cesar millans methods honestly saved me from giving up on my dog/dog ownership.

my dog used to be such a pain in the....to walk, he would pull out of haltis/harnesses/buckle collars...choke chains....no effect....nothing.

he didnt listen to me...ignored commands....terrible.

then i started focusing on using energy, body language and yes, the touches on the belly/neck to get his attention...worked like a charm.

and its true, that if you catch a dog really fixated and give him a touch on the belly he yelps, even if you barely touch him...wild stuff.

i have also not signed up for those classes, but ive read 2 of his books and im sure they will be fantastic.

I remember you had some problems with your guy. I am so glad that things turned around for you and you did not give up.

I am a big fan of Cesar. He has saved many dogs lives.

Whether people like him or not they should recognize how many dogs he has saved.

giving up was never an option

i just didnt know what other options i had left.

sometimes a bag of treats and a clicker cant solve a problem i learned.

it just comes down to whatever works for you and your dog.

if its treats and a clicker, or hugs or a halti...whatever.

i needed to get serious and be firm - so thats what i did.

cesar is a miracle worker, and demonized by a lot of pretentious dog owners IMO. he only tries to help.

I like the guy from end of my leash.. Brad, now he makes sense. Some relationship crap I am not listening to, but the training with the dogs, is gentle and effective.

I've seen Cesar maybe 5 times on TV mostly while travelling. I've always been very impressed with what I have seen, so If couldn't find a referred trainer for any reason, I'd probably give it a shot.

I have learned MANY varied topics from watching videos on different subjects. When the videos are well done, IMO, it's a great way to learn.

I'd be very curious as to your impressions when you are done or while u are taking the course. And Good luck with it!
