Dats a whole lotta kibble!!!

Today, I faced one of my biggest fears. I went to see a dental surgeon.
Without going into too much detail, my teeth are a horrible mess. I am severely anemic which hasn't helped, and soft brittle teeth are hereditary in my family. Of course getting head butted in the mouth with the back of a 160 lb female Rotti head didn't help matters either.
For the last 4 years, I have alway looked down when introduced to someone, or I barely open my mouth to talk and I don't say too much when I do. I haven't smiled a real smile in almost 4 years I grin, or when I do bust a smile I cover my mouth.
Well that's all about to change I hope, but at a very heft out of pocket cost. Amazingly the dentist said he can save most of the teeth I have left, but I do need extractions, and partials. He's also going to graft where my partials will be for implants in the future.
With everything that he is going to do, the bill comes to 31,496.62, give or take a thousand.
When the assistant gave us this total, I was like ! The first thing out of my mouth was "omg, dats a whole lot of kibble!"
Told hubby we may have to switch the dogs to Acana instead of Orijen, and cheaper cookies Of course that will never happen, but I have agreed to suspend any additions to my shoe and bag collections
I'm absolutely terrified but at the same time I'm very excited. Of course we are waiting to see if we can do this on a line of credit,as I don't have 31K laying around. Keepin' my fingers crossed that the bank will think it's a worthy investment
I can't wait because then I will be able to rejoin the workforce as well!
Just to be able to smile will be a blessing.

Nothing better then to hold your head high and SMILE!

I think it would be a worthy investment because if you let it go, it could potentially lead to serious health issues in the long run?

All the best and hope this works out for you.

Thank you klmccallum, and yes you are right it can lead to serious health issues in the long run, even death in some cases.
I really want to be able to smile when my son gets married. That would be the greatest gift I can give to myself.

Holy Smoses!!! Dat IS a whole lotta kibble..bones,,whatever!!!

I am like you and terrified of the dentist. I know I have to go again soon for "restorations" my every few years thing, but I have the work done under "twilight" sedation. Although you are supposed to be conscious and aware...I can promise you the 3 or 4 times I had it..I remembered nothing!
They mmet me at the door with a med cup containing an oral sedative and the actual twilight is IV...done in the office with specialist nurses attending.
This too is expensive, but at least I can have work done.

Good luck!!!

Is your dentist picking out his new Cadillac yet???

wow that is a lot of kibble, I hate dentists too and I had let my teeth go for almost 20 years when I started going again. It was a lot of work and pain but my teeth are better for it now, I still get fillings and now have to go for some kind of laser treatment in April. Thankfully I have a dental plan...Good luck and yes SMILE Never mind the Caddy he will be driving a BMW. Never figured out why dentist have such a high suicide rate with the money they make?

Maybe has something to do with all the bad breath they smell in a day.

When I had mine done I was able to claim the maximum for health benefits on income tax. If you have too much for one year it can be carried over until it is used up. If you have a regular bookkeeper/accountant then just remind him/her about it. You will look FABULOUS!!!

Yikes! That is a lot of $$$, but you know what they say - "You're worth it". Once it's done you won't be able to shut your mouth - in a very good way! I think if your teeth are so bad something like this will be life changing for you. Good for you for doing it.

I am looking forward to having it done, even tho I'm scared to death.
It will be worth it for sure.
Looking into a dental clinic in Puerto Vallarta, where a friend of a friend went to have major dental work done, same senerio as mine and it turned out fabulous. The clinic sets up a hotel, provides around the clock care, and transportation to and from the hotel to the clinic. Then entire procedure and care pkg is approx 10 grand, compared to the 31+ grand I was quoted here.
But the only problem is getting someone to care for our son and our furkids.
So I will probably just end up having it done here.

Well this is great news!
The dentist emailed my hubby yesterday with a new quote for my dental work, apparently a couple procedures were entered twice with the first estimate, the total cost now is coming in at $25,682.00!
Still a whole lotta kibble, but much better than $31+ K!
Have appt with bank on Tuesday, the loans manager didn't think there will be an issue, but ya never know...so please keep your for me...I would greatly appreciate it!
<~~hopin to look like that...well not green and bald of course...but a nice big smile!

LMPG, that's great news! I'm glad to hear you aren't really considering going to Mexico for the procedure. There are some horror stories about these medical package trips. Like if you get some infection afterwards the Canadian medical system can refuse to treat you and such. I'd be really cautious of going out of the country for anything like that. Now, correct me if I'm mistaken, but didn't you just do a full body makeover with your diet?? How's that gone for you by the way (if indeed that was you and I think it was). New body, new face, wow, you go girl!!

Anyhow, good luck at the bank.

Yes DD, that was me. I'm down to and maintaining 140lbs, from almost 200lbs. I went from a size 16 (which was very tight so realistically a size 18), to a size 8. I haven't been under a size 10 since grade school!
I finally have hubby on board to a healthier lifestyle too, when I started my diet he ate pretty much what I did and lost 10-12 lbs. Then since Christmas, he's made a huge committment, and has lost almost 20lbs! There is a history of heart problems in his family, and he was told by a cardiologist to lose a significant amount of weight, which he is steadily doing.
I haven't had sugar since I started Bernstein, which I went to for 8 weeks, late last Spring/early summer.Since then by watching what I eat, eliminating sugar, and reducing my breads ( I allow myself low cal breads once or twice a week). I used to drink 6 to sometimes 10 cokes a day, seriously, I was addicted to the stuff. I haven't had a regular coke since Bernstein, and I have a coke zero every couple weeks or a diet 7-Up or diet rootbeer. I drink a lot of crystal light or water with cut up lemons and limes in it.
Lost weight, got my hair cut off, and now getting a new smile, and feeling physically better than I have in years. My skin is better, my energy level has increased 10fold, and other than a bit of a battle with menopause it's been relatively pain free. I rarely have issues with the menopause now, symptoms far and few between, other than being extra sensitive at times.
I know I'm in for some pain with the dental stuff, but it will be worth it...that's what I keep tellin' myself..."it will be worth it!"

It will be all worth it, and as for your holding back on shoes and handbags... I will send you some fantabulous links to some inexpensive but GORGEOUS shoes that you can treat yourself to after you have a movie star smile

I too have genetically weak teeth and have been noticing a lot of changes going on so I should probably look into getting on this as soon as possible but the dentist is the one thing Ifear the most. Dentists and spiders....

Great news LMPG. So what's the next step? Have you booked appointments to move forward?

You realize now that you're going through with this, your gonna have to post pictures of your new lovely smile.

Heck, after all the possible pain and endurance, who wouldn't want to show it off?

I was terrified of spiders, but I've come to appreciate them for what they are. As long as they don't touch me I'm fine. I even saved a couple by trapping them in a cup and taking them outside before they got stomped by a foot.
I will definately like the links to fantabulous shoes after I'm all healed up! I'm looking forward to being able to get a job, even part time so I can pay for my own teeth, then I can still budget the occassional pair of shoes or handbag now and then.

I will be calling dentist tomorrow to set up the first of the three appts.
I can't wait to show it off, I just don't want to suffer too much before I can.

LMPG, you are already beautiful. I'm so excited for you and all the things you have been doing for you lately

During the process if you need someone to help with J or any of your furbutts, you know who to ask I'd be over there in a second. Heck, I'd steal any of your kids (both fur and human) on a normal day, so if you need help let me know!

You will pull through just fine, we'll be rooting for ya! And again, if there's anything I can help with during the process lemme know!

Awe thank you cassiek ! I appreciate that very much.
It has been a pleasure getting to know you, and I so enjoyed going antique hunting with you the other day!
My first appointment is this coming Thursday, to take the impressions and of course to pay the bill...we have to pay for the entire process before any of the work is done..
I have told Jeff and Jeffrey about your offer to help as well and they both send their thanks.
