Pedigree Research - COOL!

So I've been tracing OC's pedigree lately and mapping it all out to see what exactly is in this dog of mine. In the beginning it was a lot of show dogs with some working kennels (totally expected) and I noticed quite a bit of line breeding going on (again, totally expected) but then there was a HUGE shocker!!! My dog...my goofy lil prick of a dog...is a descendant of Leonard Seppala's Togo!!!!! As in, the offspring of Suggen and Dolly. As in the dog who at 12 years old, led Seppala's team for the great serum run! Many people think Balto was the dog, but Balto was actually the leader for Gunnar Kaasen, Seppala's young kennel-hand and assistant.

See any family resemblance? LOL!

My silly, loveable OC

Togo in all his glory

WOW that is a face that would melt hearts. How incredibly attractive OC is.
I'm sure this kind of research must be very time consuming.

OC is a very handsome dog.

Fun to research their pedigrees. I've been very happy with the pedigrees of all my dogs. Not a bad idea to research the lines of a purebred pup before you buy it, just to make sure it follows lines and breeders that you like. Some breed clubs have pedigree searches that let you go back as far as they've recorded. Very interesting.

I looked up Mitzie's too. Nothing really remarkable but I was so surprised at how long her family tree was. My baby dog's real name was Princess Kylie Wildfire. I love that name. And how I loved her.

Thanks for all the nice words everyone

Claire, its good for those days where it is too muddy to do much outside and the dogs are contently working on a stuffed kong
