kitten in tree :(
I came home from work last night to find a kitten in one of my trees. I have no idea who's it is, all of my fosters are accounted for. It looks to be around 6 to 8 weeks old, and must have been chased up the tree by one of my stray cats. ( i trap, neuter and release some). I have tried calling it down , with food, etc. It will not move far from the branch its on. The fired department will not come out. And the kitten is up about 40 ft, so i cant get anyone to climb up a ladder to get it. I dont even have a ladder big enough to reach. My boyfriend climbed up about 10 ft. and tried to get it to come down, but it wont. And this tree is not climbable any further up, its to big and dangerous. Any suggestions other than trying to get it down with waiving food at it ? I dont even know if it knows what canned food is, it could be a wild kitten. ?????

I would put one of your traps out with food in it at the base of the tree....most likely the kitten will be able to get down on it's own, but if feral, will probably wait until dark.
Try calling tree trimmers in your area too, they may be nice and come to help. After all saving a kitten from a tree would be great advertising if the paper picked up the story.

I know it is a big worry especially since it's only a kitten. Don't know if your humane society would do rescues or if you even have one in your area.
Another thought would be to try to leave a container of nice smelly food as high up in the tree (close to the trunk if you can find a way to make it secure) as your boyfriend can reach (even if only 10 feet up). Then just leave him alone and see what happens. Cats have great noses so hopefully it will entice him to come down lower and eventually all the way down.

You could try a local exterminator, they would have the tools to get it down. Just tell them there's some critter in the tree and you're not sure what it is. Maybe once they get there even though it's a kitten they'll help get it down..a bit sneaky but it might work!

Well kitten is out of tree. It finally decided tonight to try and come down, and it walked out on a small limb and fell. Luckily it was in a weeping willow tree, so it had a bazillion hanging limbs to catch on the way down. It took off for the woods, but i got it some water and canned food, and it finally came to the dish. But i cant get near it and it was getting dark, so if it is here tomorrow , i will try and catch it. At least it is out of the tree.

Well that's great news Edwina.
Hopefully it will find the food and be in safe arms such as yours.

Glad to hear the kitten came down safely on catching the little bugger
Another option in situations like this is to call the local hydro company, they have the cherry-picker trucks & may come to help.
