Which wet cat food?
Hello, I'm in the process of bringing my cat's diet to raw. Currently I'm trying to bring him from kibble/wet food to just wet food.
I've stopped the kibble and all dry food now (except the occasional) kitty treats and only feed him canned. I've found though at the moment he's only eating half a can of wet cat food a day, this seems little to me but is this normal? He's 5 years of age now. I feed him 1/4 in the morning and 1/4 in the evening, he usually doesn't finish the 1/4 in 1 sitting and the leftovers usually sit there long enough to dry out. I currently feed him Fancy feast. I've tried other brands like wellness, and Go! natural, but he will only lick it about 5 times to see what the taste is and walk off. He's perfectly healthy (just had his checkup a week ago). Is there something I could improve on to make my cat eat more wet cat food? or is the amount he eats perfectly healthy? (I've also tried sprinkling everything on the catfood, bonito flakes, dried shrimp, dried squid, my cat doesn't even like canned tuna or raw salmon) Thank you for your time |

How much does your cat weigh? He's only eating 1/2 of a small (3oz) can of Fancy Feast per day? That's definitely not enough. What flavours of Fancy Feast have you offered? Most have fish somewhere in the ingredients and if your cat doesn't like fish, that could be part of the problem. Look for "turkey & giblets" or "tender liver & chicken", which are fish-free. Have you tried any other brands? Perhaps he'd prefer a different texture (like pate instead of chunks, or vice versa).
You could also add a bit of extra water to the canned so that it takes longer to dry out. If he has a favourite treat or dry food, pulverize it and sprinkle the powder on top of it to make it more enticing.

He weighs about 10lbs I think. I've tried pate and chunks, chicken, turkey, and fish he eats the same amount of them all. >_< forgive me I mean 1 can of fancy feast a day, 1/2 of the larger can's.
I tried grinding up his favorite treats squid and the dry treats, and sprinkling it on top but he still doesn't take too it. The odd thing about my cat is, he used to love tuna, raw salmon sashimi, and cooked beef. Over time though he just wont touch now, I wonder what has caused it. |

Mine eats roughly one whole can a day. As the cat gets older they tend to eat a little less sometimes or at least in one sitting.

If your kitty is not loosing weight, I don't see a problem, cats like humans, can have different metabolisms.
I had to get Puddles off Fancy Feast and all kibble (actually had to eliminate the kibble from the house), onto Wellness, then slightly cooked chicken and beef, then I was able to feed her raw. I did find to transition her from Fancy Feast (kitty crack) to Wellness, I had to sprinkle pulverized freezed dried salmon ontop and lightly mix it into the top portion of her Wellness.

My cat is picky about his wet food too. I've had the most luck so far with Nature's Variety Instinct. It also helped to add a splash of warm water and mix it in.

My cats do prefer Instinct over Wellness too.
