Apple-Peanut Butter Treats for dogs
These look and smell good enough for us to eat!!! I dare anyone to try one!!
Yields: 51/2 pounds of treats or a 1 month supply -6 cups whole wheat flour -10 cups oatmeal -1 tbsp baking powder -4 cups apples, finely grated in a food processor(5 to 6 medium apples) -5 tbsp blackstrap molasses -10 heaping tbsp peanut butter -4 tbsp olive oil -2 cups lukewarm water (may need to add more) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Combie flour, oats, baking powder in a big mixing bowl. Then add grated apples, molasses, peanut butter and olive oil, stirring with a wooden spoon and/or kneading with hands as necessary. Add the lukewarm water 1 cup at a time until the batter is smooth and there are no dry clumps remaining. Add more water if mixture is to dry. Lightly dust a flat surface with flour so the dough won't stick. Roll the cookie dough flat, spreading it evenly to a 1/2 inch thickness. Cut the dough with cookie cutters of your choice. Put the dough shapes on a non-stick OR greased cookie sheet and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Cookies will be done when they are golden brown on the edges. Remove from oven and let cool. MY NOTES: I didn't have molasses, so I used honey instead! I used gingerbread men and small dog cookie cutters!! These are the only people and dogs that Copper is allowed to eat!!! I made a batch just before Christmas and still have many left!! I keep mine in a covered plastic container in the refrigerator.

Glad to hear Jet loves them!!!!! I made my first batch a few weeks before Christmas and I'll have to make another batch within a week or two!!! My dog ususally gets two or three of these cookies a day!! The batch sure lasted long enough!!!
For safety sake, I keep them refrigerated except for the small bag I keep in Copper's knapsack!! ( YES, I carry a knapsack for my dog!!! Filled with treats, extra leashes and collars, a camera, food and water dishes, and of course toys!!!!)

I just made these last night and Spencer loves them. I only made half a batch and still I have half of the dough left in the fridge. I will have to finish them up tonight. I am giving them to my friends for their dogs to try as well. Thanks for the recipe.
