Can a dog get pregnant while nursing????

So I sitting here with my female dog on my lap because my male dog is acting all weird and frisky. He suddenly started sniffing her tonight and he keeps trying to mount her. My female just gave birth three weeks ago, and I am worried that she could get pregnant again....before I can have her spade.
Help!!!!

I found this answer:

Can dogs become pregnant while they are nursing puppies?
Unlike cats, dogs are very unlikely to become pregnant while they are nursing. However, they can
go into heat and become pregnant as early as three months after giving birth, so it is important to
have a mother dog spayed as soon as possible after her puppies have been weaned.

Thanks for the link.
Yeah, that is what worries me....they are unlikely. I was hoping for a definitive NO they cannot get pregnant, lol. I guess I can get my male neutered before that happens if I can get him in this next week.

Has anyone had their dog get pregnant right after whelping?? I am worried that it would take too much out of her.

Please separate your dogs. Keep the male away from your female.
As ancient said, it is highly unlikely for a pregnancy to happen.
If it did happen, ask your vet if he/she would fix the female anyway and effectively the pregnancy would no longer be a problem. It would be a lot better than putting that poor girl through another pregnancy.
And as jiorji stated, most of us are ver pro spay/nuetur. There are enough unwanted animals in this world.

Why don't you get the male dog neutered now and give the poor Mama dog a break.

It sounds like that is the plan now!

It's not probable that your dog will get pregnant so soon after whelping. I guess no one can say 100%, but it's definatly 99% unlikely that she will become pregnant. Dogs go into season every 6 to 9 months. If she was in season again, all the other signs would be present, bleeding (which with the pups being 3 weeks old would be out of place), she would be swollen., she would also be flagging and giving off other breeding signs.

To be 100% sure, I would agree with everyone else that getting your male neutered asap would be your best bet. With the pups being 3 weeks old I would recommend waiting until the pups are weaned before spaying your female. She would need to be away from them for a day or so for the surgery and recovery. Also the pups are more likely to pull at her stitches at this age. Once the pups are 8 weeks and her milk has dried up she should be ready.

All the best with you dogs and pups

Your concerns are well-founded. If it is possible, it certainly would be too much for her.

Great idea! You can have him neutered now and your female once she's done feeding her pups. You'll never have to go through these same worries again.

I also vote for keeping them separate until you can get the male neutered asap.

Once again, I think I am over reacting. I think the male is just overwhelmed by all the activity around here. I can not get him in for another week...argh!! But I am keeping them seperated at night and keeping one with me at all times. Still, I feel more at ease once I get him neutered. I will definitely follow up with her after the pups are finished weaning.
My husband is being all stupid about getting the dog fixed....hmmmm, I seem to recall he was the same way about a vasectomy, lol. So I won't tell.

Just to let you know If his neuter was about 30 days ago or less, he could possibly get her pregnant, yes. Sometimes there is still some "leftover" sperm in his system after a neuter, and it can take up to 30 days for it to die off.
He will still have to be separated from her for 30 days.
