dosage amount for 2lb chihuahua for ivermectin 1%
Hi, my puppy (a 2lb chihuahua) was diagnosed with demodex mites after a skin scraping. Our vet prescribed Ivermectin 1% and I was told to give her .4cc the first day and .5cc everyday after for four weeks or until it was cleared up. I wasn't told to look out for any signs so when she threw up after a dose one day i thought it was just b/c i had to fight with her a little to take it. she slowly became worse and today was stumbling around shaking and not eating. I rushed her in and was told that she was suffering from toxicity from the ivermectin. One of her eyes was dialated and i am scared she was having a seizure. My question is are there any permanent side effects from this other thane fact that we may lose her? Also, is the dosage amount my vet gave us too much for such a small dog? I am very worried about her, she is still at the vet tonight on an iv, but i am wondering if she makes it what are the long term effects of the toxicity and should i look for a new vet if they gave her too much. thanks so much.

Hi, sumnerh183. Welcome to the board, though I wish it weren't under such stressful circumstances.
Most of the members here are not vets, but there is one, Dr Lee, who signs on now and then. I'll PM him a link to your thread so he'll see it next time he's on. He should be able to tell you about long-term effects of ivermectin toxicity and give you information about dose. I hope your girl pulls through okay!
