Catching a rabbit

There is a white domesticated rabbit that has been on the side of the road, next to a wooded area, two days in a row, from a nursing home where I visit daily. I pull my car over and the headlights do not bother him, but I can only get within 10 feet of him and he slowly hops a few feet, and stops.

My question is, is it possible to catch a rabbit in a have a heart trap, or will it not work since the rabbit will have to hop in the trap instead of walk like other animals. I know nothing about rabbits, and don't want to waste my time sitting there if he won't be able to set the trap off. I will have to stay there and wait because it will be too close to the road and I think the trap will get stolen if I don't
