Lettin the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin it back in.

Thank God that I found this forum and learned that the food I was feeding Mokes was crap. As a result I changed his food, and thankfully, no problems.

No one I know has been directed affected by the recall. But I feel terribly for the people that it has...

As a direct result of the scare and concerns about major labels we have switched our 3 cats to holistic, from Iams to Felidae.

This is going very well for us. The switch is going much more smoothly than expected, the added cost is far, far less than we anticipated, and no problems have yet emerged.

I'm not sure what option to pick in the poll?

We give our kitty Performatrin Kitten (purple bag from Pet Value). AFAIK it hasn;t been affected but I am following the recall news. I'm still a bit worried.

No, not affected. I stopped feeding my golden retriever Nutro kibble a couple of months ago for health reasons. Now, Bentley is on Orijen for the past month and I'm absolutely sold on the product from the formula to my dog's improvements to the great customer service.

I'm so terribly sorry for your losses. I cant imagine what you've been through, and my heart goes out to you.

Well, I voted organic (holistic)
Dog has Evo/Solid Gold.. and cats Felidae dry.
For changes,..I switched the Innova feline wet food (made at Menu foods plant) for Felidae tinned. and threw away the Pounce Chicken-Flavoured Treats that I'd been giving as an occassional "junk-food" indulgence.

Though it cant begin to compare with the anguish of those who've suffered the nightmare of sick or lost pets. . I think its safe to say pet lovers have all been indirectly affected by this recall, both in stress and anxiety, and most definitely by shatterered trust. :

I feed Innova regular to the dogs with a little Timberwolf Organics Wild & Natural added. I'm going to switch the Wild & Natural to Go Natural Grain Free and then also try Orijen if I can get it. The cats get switched between Innova and DVP's Natural Balance.

I personally wasn't affected (I cook for my dog) but the animal shelter where I work was hit hard. We had to throw out so much food. Almost all of the canned cat food had to be thrown away. The dogs had been eating Alpo before it got recalled. (I know, ) I am sure a lot of other shelters and rescues are having problems too. The shelter does buy dry food (and since I took over nutrition and feeding, they are buying holistic brands. We feed a lot less, so the cost almost works out) however all the canned food is donated by the public, and it is almost all crap brands. We feel horrible that the animals were probably eating some of the tainted food. Actually we had a cat get mysteriously ill a month ago- the cat was only 2, just suddenly stopped eating, got really sick and had to be put down. The vet said probably liver or kidney failure, which is odd in a formerly healthy 2 year old cat! Now we wonder if it was the food that made him sick.

My cousins dog was affected by the recall.. she was getting Iams. thankfully she didnt get sick and my cousin returned the food.

I've always feed my cats whiskas, friskies or 9 lives wet food and meow mix dry or friskies dry. only problem i had was once i got a bad box somehow that wasn't outdated or moldy but it was fish stuff but it was extraaaaaa extra stinky so we got rid of it.

now i feed them all felidae

I feed the strays and feral's happy tails though.. sorry, can't afford to feed 20+ cats all felidae somethings better then nothing for them. and it wasn't affected so they are all fine.

My guys weren't eating anything on the banned list, but I put myself as affected because I've been dithering over Go! Natural canned since then. It isn't made in the affected plants but it IS made by Menu foods-so I switched over to Felidae wet just in case.

I'm so sorry for anyone's losses. It's just not fair-if it had been people food, there is no way it would have been produced for 3 months with a tainted ingredient.

Both my cat's and my dog were affected by the recall, my cat treat's were just recalled within the last week, but thank heaven's I have an old can of the chicken treats that wasn't techically on the list....Of course that was thrown out in a heck of a hurry and now I give them a little piece of ham for a treat, (I know bad mommy for giving them people food, but they are both strays, and seem to be able to digest it okay...they have had ham as a treat ever since I found out that tuna was really bad for them (but I feed my kitties Fancy Feast (Thank God...they were on Science Diet, and Iams, but I switched them a couple years ago to the Fancy Feast and they like the taste much better)

My dog food is Ol' Roy, cause my Rottie dog Stinker (Sierra) has a very sensitive stomach, and the other stuff we were feeding her she was getting way too sick...if I understand the recall correctly only the wet food from Ol' Roy was recalled, not the dry, and so we are still feeding her the dry (she doesn't get wet food as she woof's it down too fast and makes herself sick)
Her dog buscuits were also recalled, but again it was the same brand but we have an earlier batch...but of course out they went too...you just can't take chances with this stuff...I'll tell you if I knew I could switch her to a "safe" food (if there is actually such a thing out there anymore ) without her having too upset a tummy, or getting too sick (she is still getting over almost being killed in the kennel, and I just don't want to upset her again by switching anything on her...my poor Stinker doggie, she's been through enough). If anyone has heard anything about a "dry" food recall for either cat's or dogs, please LET ME KNOW because I think I'll start just making my own pet food at home so I don't have to worry about every bag of food being a potential killer for my "babies".
