Yup she did. She knows good advice when she hears it. I hope she keeps it up. I took the little wrap off her neck. They said I could. She was scratching at it. The site where her tube was in her is very red. I put neosporin on it. I hope it isn't infected and I hope she doesn't keep scraching at it or it won't heal.

Getting her medicine into her mouth and her swallowing it did not go well this am. alot of it drooled out b/c she didn't swallow it. ideas?

ut oh

she didn't eat last night. she acted very alert and perky this am...til i had to give her her medicine. it is through the mouth now and she hates it. i have a feeling only half of it is actually going into her mouth. the rest she slobbers out. IF she doesn't eat today I have to give her an apetite stimulant. i hope and pray she eats on her own.

Meow can you crush the pill and put it in Simba's food? THere are also these things you can buy that you place the pill on the end of it and place it in the kittys mouth and press it and it releases into the back of the throat area?

Have you ever tried pill pockets? They are treat type things that have a hole in them and all you do is place the pill in the pocket and give it to them? I am sure if you google pill pockets you will find it.

Good luck today! glad things are looking up for Simba finally!

Great suggestions. I've always had pretty good luck with the pill pockets. You have to make sure the pill isn't too big, or else they see it.

Maybe she didn't eat because she's really getting used to all of this. She's been eating with a tube for a while now, and she's got to learn how to solely rely on her mouth for food.

I hope she manages to eat later well.

My Rocky would not take the pill-pockets,for a year or so now I kind of melt the pill in a tiny bit of water and mix it in with a teaspoon of food, after he finishes he gets the rest of his food.
However,it might scare Simba away from her food,I don't know..
Is her meds in liquid form??
I have a pill-shooter,but that to did not work, not with my cat,but it might work with Simba.

Are you squirting the medication in the front of her mouth or the side? It's best to do it from the side and squirt small amounts at a time.

Are you tilting her head back when you give it to her? It's best not to tilt it at all.

Quote:
Make a pouch in the corner of the cat's mouth by placing a finger or thumb inside the cat's cheek and pulling out on his lip. The cat's head should be parallel to the ground or slightly raised. Place the liquid medication into the cheek pouch, small amounts at a time. Proceed slowly, waiting until the cat swallows before adding more medication.

When I give Herbie his lactulose...which he hates with a passion...I do it a little at a time...give a little, let him swallow and so on. We also have an extension on the syringe about 1 inch or so long that is quite thin, it makes it much easier.

Yes i was tilting her head so i could see what i am doing. I will stop that. i am putting it into the side of her mouth. a little at a time. she ate alot on saturday and a tiny amount sunday. i just came home from work and she only had a tiny amount today. i just gave her mirtazapine
http://marvistavet.net/html/body_mirtazapine.html

after 10 min she went to the bowl and ate some. EAT SIMBA EAT.

for those of you who have used this med...when you stop is the theory that the cat should be "used" to eating and will eat on their own? what keeps them from going back to being nauseous or no apetite after you stop the meds?

EAT SIMBA EAT!

Hopefully the use of an appetite stimulant like mirtazapine breaks the cycle of a cat feeling sick because it's not eating, and then not eating because it feels sick. It can also help them get the nutrients needed to recover from what ails them. One dose has been enough when I've had to use it, but some people use it more regularly if they're dealing with a chronic condition such as CRF.

So tomorrow Simba is going to eat more! I hope so anyway!! Do you have a scale so you can monitor her weight loss/gain? That way you can tell for yourself if she loses from not eating.

I give her flagyl for her IBD. It helps her. The pain meds are as needed.

She ate last night and this morning. She never eats in the morning so this is good I weigh myself on a people scale. Get off. Pick her up and weigh myself again. It doesn't show ounces though. That is how I weigh her. Maybe I should do it a better way?

Yeah for Simba!!!! Happy Birthday beautiful girl.

I use a digital baby scale for weighing, it has ounces and a hold feature for the squirmers. Unfortunately, they act like I'm trying to kill them when I put them on it.

awwwww thank you thank for the happy birthday wishes and pretty pictures!!!!!!! simba is eating today and her bday present was that I took the wrap off her neck. Now I have to watch to see if she scratches her neck and makes it bleed. (hope not).

She ate alot today
Hope I don't have to keep giving her the apetite stim to make her eat. hope she naturally just eats on her own even when the med wears off.

Thanks to everyone for your support of my little girl.

I have followed this story for a while and have so much emotion invested in Simba's story, I get so excited to hear of her progress.

Can you decrease the amount of the meds you give her or does that particular medicine not work like that? You either have an appetite or not type thing.
