All Laval cats and dogs must be sterilized by Jan. 1
Does anyone think there should be an age exemption for older dogs not neutered or spayed.
I applaud the efforts to curbing this huge problem. ![]() http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montre...dogs-1.4458492 Cindy

Like many rules and laws this targets good owners along with the bad. Want to bet which owners will comply? It's hard to tell if either sex is neutered, even the males are left with an empty sac these days.
My dog had a medical concern and neuter was suggested when he was 8 years old. My Vet said his testicles would not shrink up as a younger dog's would and she might have to remove the sac as well as it would dangle and be a danger to him when out running in bush areas. She said without testicles in the sac it would not respond to temperature etc. by moving as it does now. Thankfully that medical concern was resolved and at 10 he is still intact. So yes, if they go ahead with this ill conceived (pun intended) idea waiving if after a certain age is something I would support. What are they going to do when they find neuter does NOT magically fix behavioural problems? |

Although there's no magic behavioural fix... it does help fix the overpopulation problem.
I agree that testing/enforcement will be a problem but to me this policy makes sense and it will work to a degree for sure. Fixed is fixed. accidents are zero when fixed. This with other measures....like pet stores only selling fixed animals from shelters... can only help. In terms of exemptions....unless a vet says the operation is dangerous for the particular pet...I see no reason for exemptions. thumbs up from me!

Well put Marko my thoughts exactly with the over population of pets this can only help.
![]() I wonder how this law will work for rescue groups coming in from outside the country. I know a lot of US based rescue groups come into Canada with pets for adoption..will they be required to show proof or something. Cindy
