Super Itch!!

my 7 years old carin terrier has been suffering severe itchness that she always scratches and rub her back under the couch to relieve the itchness.
There is no sign of rashes. She had two bath in the past two weeks to relieve her itchness. she reminders activity, happy, eating well, etc.

I gave her benadryl and it really helps.

do you know what causes the problem?

If Benadryl worked then I'd suspect allergies. Only a Vet visit can tell you for sure and even then It could be a long drawn out process to determine the allergen(s) For that reason your own Vet, or you, might recommend a specialist in Dermatology. I'd do your own VEt first just to rule out other easier (and cheaper) possible causes like fleas, mange etc.

Environmental allergies are more common than food allergies.

What shampoo did you use? I tried five before I found one that helped and one of the five made my dog Worse.

Good luck, it's horrible to see them in agony with itchies.

my dog rarely gets showered. we applied human shampoo and regular doggie shampoo on her in the last two weeks.
her itchness starts two weeks ago. and it seems getting worse.
I am thinking if the formula of dog food got changed.
we decided to take her off the dog food for few dogs.
we will feed her oat, meat, veggie, flexseed, coconut oil. and hope the new diet will improve the itchness.

WE had serious illness not thought to be related to allergies at the time but now the illness is gone, so is the itchiness. Here's what we did for your consideration. Stop the Benadryl. If you try two things at once you won't know which is the beneficial remedy. We stopped all meds and went to a home cooked diet of a novel protein and a novel carb. For us that was turkey and sweet potato. This was on the advice of a Holistic Integrative Vet. The novel foods might be something different for you. I do recommend you work with a Vet.

More and more it is thought many health issues, allergies and itching especially, may be dependent on good gut health. In hindsight this appears to be true for us as once the severe, life threatening gut issue was cleared up my dog's allergy symptoms disappeared.

Dogs Naturally Magazine is currently offering a free download of an article on the importance of gut health that might be of interest to you. Here is a copy and paste of the notice on it that I got in my email subscription. I hope the links work.

Inside your dog is something called “The Forgotten Organ.”

It's a delicate balance of bacteria and other organisms and it’s called a microbiome. And the organisms in your dog’s microbiome are so critical to your dog’s health, they outnumber his own cells 10 to 1.

It's truly a virtual organ that plays a key role in your dog’s immune system function. And if your dog’s microbiome isn’t healthy, your dog can’t be healthy.

This is why most allergy drugs, diets and treatments won’t work in the long run – they all harm the delicate balance in his microbiome, which makes him more likely to suffer from allergies and other autoimmune diseases as soon as you stop his meds or special diet.

And it’s not just allergies. A damaged microbiome can be the cause of joint pain, digestive issues and, ultimately, even cancer.

As researchers lean more about the microbiome and how it influences health and disease, it’s becoming clear that damage to this critical organ is one of the most significant and preventable diseases in dogs (and humans) …

… so check out today’s article to see if your dog’s microbiome has been damaged and the critical steps you can take to restore his health:

What are you feeding. I suspect if there has been a food change thats likely the culprit. Otherwise has anything changed in the envionment. Shampoo, cleaning products , sprays andf also outdoors like pest control...
