Training Class Pictures with Riley

My trainer holds weekly outdoor classes that are drop-in style that I try to attend as often as I can. These classes are awesome, they are designed to have dogs working in lots of situations. The trainer also specializess in agressive dogs and many of the participants are dogs that are formerly agressive. This sometimes makes for a few interesting moments now and then .

There can be anywhere from about 12-30+ participants. This is a greeting exercise where there were two lines of dogs and we had to approach and greet the other person while our dogs maintained a quiet sit.

This is an exercise where some dogs are sitting and the others weave in amongst them in a heel position.

Sitting on a place board while other dogs weave and loop around him. I stepped away about 15 feet for the first time in this exercise last week and he still held his stay. I was very proud .

Some other exercises we do is to have dogs do down stays and have others walk over their backs (simulates hanging out at a coffee shop etc), go through the crowd (all in a circle, then cross the circle to other side which has the chaos in the middle to go through), stay positions in groups where someone calls their dog through the middle etc. There are a wide range of levels there from people who do entire class off leash to those that never step away from the dog. It has been an awesome class for Riley .

After the class we went for a short walk

Riley will thankfully accept your cookie .

Of course, I didn't show his moments where he just about flattened me with his enthusiasm when he broke on a stay/recall.

I could see that focus even before you mentioned it! How did you train him into that habit?

What a good boy he is! He deserves yet another cookie! Such a handsome dude, too

I don't know if it's cuz I'm such a wuss but, that second photo with Riley looking up at you brought tears to my eyes . It just says a lot more to me than simply a training exercise.

What a fabulous idea to have a drop-in style training class !

Riley is absolutely gorgeous .

Lots of treats . Actually he LOVES to work. He gets super excited when we get close to the class location. I keep meaning to take him back to tracking classes as well because I have never met a dog that likes to work like he does. In fact I think the main reason we had such problems with him last summer was that we had totally lapsed on that and he needs to be stimulated (and reminded of his manners ) constantly.

Great photos!

I wish there was a class like that around here, Basil could certainly use some practice focusing with distractions. Maybe I should show him what you and Riley can do as guilt....um, inspiration
