ear/mouth problem? + toronto emergency vet.
So I posted this thread last week regarding some skin discoloration:
http://www.pets.ca/forum/showthread....199#post940199 I did switch to metal bowls, but since then more symptoms have appeared-- my cat is scratching her face rather intensely and won't stop grooming/washing her face. She also shakes her head quite often/licks her lips/yawns which makes me suspicious of a mouth/tooth problem. She scratched herself so hard that she bled once a couple of days ago. At this point I don't know whether my original discoloration issues are related/a product of another problem/a coincidence. She otherwise behaves normally and is still playful and eating normally (even hard food). The only other thing I've noticed is that she's slightly less social than usual but this could be overanalysing. So, I thought, it's obviously bothering her, and while it's not a pressing issue, I definitely wanted to take her to the vet at this point. I just moved to Toronto from Ottawa so we don't have a regular vet. I wanted to get this cleared up by the end of the weekend, and since today is a holiday, my only option was the emergency vet downtown. I figured I would have to wait, but this place is impossible unless your pet's limbs are falling off. We were there 3 hours with no end in sight, and kept getting bumped back and back. I understand this isn't extremely urgent, and while there were some clear emergencies, I found their ranking among the "non-urgents" a bit arbitrary. So we left because at that point it was unfair to keep her waiting in the crate, I think. So now I have to find a regular vet and schedule an appt sometime this week. I really wanted to get this cleared up today. But does anyone have any ideas in the meantime? I sort of wanted this fixed for my own sanity at least but this definitely didn't help. |

After she scratches & shakes her head do her ears sort of lay half flattened? Usually when they shake their heads the first thing to consider is something in their ears. Often the ears will half flatten to "protect" the inner canal from air flow etc cuz something is bugging them.
Have you noticed her chewing on anything recently that she normally wouldn't be chewing on? Would she let you look in her mouth without puttin up a fuss/scratching you?

I'll have to watch what her ears do. I can look at her mouth without much fuss.
What gets me is the scratching/constant grooming & face washing. |
