Panasonic DMC TZ3
So after searching the internet and talking with some of you and also people on a photography forum I have decided to try this camera. Brought it home today and charged the battery now I have to go to work and it will most likely be Wed. before I can actually take it out and play with it. Like I said before I know very little about cameras and it will most likely take me some time to learn how to use this one correctly. Here is where you camera buffs are going to raise your eyebrows.....but what the heck is white noise, ISO and SCN1 and SCN2
![]() Many questions to follow as I am only on page 5 of manual

I think white noise is the specklies you get sometimes in your pics. (Like a pixel here and there end up white) maybe... I dunno.
![]() ISO is the film speed in 35mm cameras. In digital, it's the same idea. The higher the ISO, the less light you need, but the more grainy the pic is. SCN1 and SCN2 are probably scene 1 and 2, which would be some sort of preset settings on your camera. Good luck! I hope you have fun with it. ![]() ![]() |

white noise?? in what context?? because white noise is usually referring to that noise you get on tv when the channels are off air...you know those dots?
but it can also be contrast...the whites being too bright? can you type the sentence with "white noise" in the instructions manual? |

As far as I know - 'Noise' is somewhat equivalent to grain in traditional 35mm - which is what you get (extra grain) when you use high ISO traditional film - so traditionally a grainy picture is one where you see the grain structure of the film. You can see the grain better in an enlarged 8x 10 inch print than you can in a 4x6 inch print.
Noise is very similar in digital photography but instead of grain (round) you see pixels which are square. You usually get noise when you set the camera's ISO too high or you are shooting in low light without flash. There are other components and facets to noise...but it gets even more technical.

Congrats on the Camera
And actually reading the manual. I just got a pentax slr, and haven't even cracked the manual. So post all tips here, and pictures of course. Enjoy.
