I love Skye. Nice and solid, still a gentle feel to it.

When your pup has had food, wakes from a nap, has had a bit of playtime - take pup to the area in the garden where you want it to do do her business. Be consistent. Don't leave until she's done it there. Don't use it for play - just for her business. Give her praise or a treat if she's done a pee or a poo, or both until she's doing it consistently in that particular spot. Don't give any praise if she's doing it in the areas where you don't want her to eliminate. She'll want to please and go for the area(s) where she gets love!

I've known a few dogs named Skye and they were all lovely girls!

Can't help you with a name sorry.

But regarding the lawn, we only get burnt grass spots in winter, never in summer because the girls always go potty in different places every time. During winter, space outdoors is at a premium due to the large amount of snow we get so all burn spots are usually in one area, just outside either front or back door.

And we tend to keep the grass a bit taller than most people would prefer. Not sure if the grass height has anything to do with the burn spots though.

I like the name Rae! It's cute! When are you getting your puppy? What kind is she/he? Welcome to the board!!

I just wanted to add that it's also a good idea to use a 'word' when you're trying to teach her to go to the bathroom in a certain area. It helps the puppy associate that you need her to go to the bathroom when you take her out there, and you're not there to play. This way too when she gets the hang of it, you can actually 'ask' your dog if she needs to go out. Generally if a dog hears their bathroom word, they'll get anxious and excited - their way of letting you know that YES, they have to go out.

ie: Our command word is "Do your Business".

We us 'go pee' for pee, and 'get busy' for poo. We use the words as soon as we see Bo getting ready to do either. We are quiet while she does it, and then praise when she's done.

Giving the pup a word for their business is also helpful when you're on the road for a longer period, or at someone else's house. You go out - tell them their word, and they're more likely to go on command, rather than having to haul around a highway parking lot or a busy unknown area for 45 minutes waiting for them to get on with it.

I like Skye and the spelling too--different.

What kind of puppy is she and when will you bring her to her forever home?

The best advice I can give you is to make sure you bring a little pitcher of water with you. When she does her job in the certain spots, dilute the area with the water to reduce the nitrogens.

Good luck with the "job" training in certain spots and look forward to seeing pictures of "Skye!"
