Drs. Foster & Smith Products Recalled

Full details:

Drs. Fosters & Smith Products Recalled Due to Rice Protein
April 25th, 2007

Another pet food maker - Drs. Fosters & Smith - is issuing a recall due to the use of Wilbur-Ellis rice protein (scroll down the page). Oddly, the manufacturer says they received the recall advice today, not last week.

Rice protein concentrate has been indicated as a possible source of melamine recently found in pet food products. As a precautionary measure Wilbur-Ellis company, the supplier of rice protein concentrate, is voluntarily recalling all lots of rice protein concentrate. We received notification from the manufacturer today, April 25, 2007, suggesting we issue a precautionary recall.

Blue Buffalo Recalls All Canned Food & Treats

Full details at:
http://www.itchmo.com/read/blue-buff...reats_20070427

BREAKING NEWS: Blue Buffalo Recalls All Canned Dog and Cat Food, As Well As Treats

Blue Buffalo just announced another expansion of the recall covering:

* All Blue brand can dog foods
* All Spa Select brand can cat foods
* All Blue Health Bar treats.

The release indicates that rice protein was added without their knowledge to these products. Blue Buffalo attributes this to "tampering" by their contract manufacturer American Nutrition, who was connected to several other recalls on Thursday.

Exclamation Walmart STILL Selling Recalled Pet Food !!!

I hope Walmart gets sued for this!!!

Full story:
http://www.itchmo.com/more-recalled-...-wal-mart-2463

Quote:
Yesterday we posted about Sheri McComber, an Alabama cat owner, who bought recalled Special Kitty cat food from a Wal-Mart store. She claims that four of her cats are sick from eating the recalled cat food.

This was not just an isolated incident in one Wal-Mart store. There is still more recalled cat food on shelves in another Wal-Mart store. A TV news team in Alabama went to the Clanton Wal-Mart and found dozens of Special Kitty Pouches just like the ones McComber had purchased.

Initially, the product code checks out as safe, but if the sticker is peeled off, there is another product code underneath. The original UPC code underneath the sticker matches the ones on the pet food recall list.

Because the stickers are over the recalled product code, the items can be purchased by consumers. The news investigator left one of the stickers off of the packages. When the cashier scanned the label on the package, it said do not sell and the cashier would not let him purchase it.

After checking further I found this:

http://www.itchmo.com/menu-foods-and...n-shelves-2485

I think they should have added somewhere on the packaging that the food is now safe.

And, I still will never buy any wet food that is in a gravy because of the future possibility of it being contaminated again.

This is what I received today from Champion petfoods:

Dear ORIJEN CONSUMER – there are news reports from Australia linking ORIJEN cat foods to health problems to a number of cats in the Sydney area.

Two weeks ago Champion Petfoods removed ORIJEN cat foods from shops in Australia and last week we issued a voluntary recall to collect any remaining cat food. Please know this recall is specific to AUSTRALIA ONLY and does not impact any ORIJEN food other than what was exported to Australia. As ORIJEN is made with fresh meats cooked at low temperatures, the Australian government mandates our foods be irradiated. This process is unique to Australia and we believe is the cause for health concerns in cats in the Sydney area. We have since stopped all ORIJEN shipments to Australia.

This problem does not originate from our factory or from our ingredients. All foods (including those shipped to Australia) have been tested thoroughly in the past few weeks and the results are perfect. We have recently uncovered research connecting irradiation to health problems in cats and have since ceased all shipments to Australia http://www.vetpathology.org/cgi/content/full/44/6/912

We are completely (100%!) confident in ORIJEN foods.

You will likely receive calls from your distributors or retailers. Please see the attached letter which helps explain the situation. In order to provide our retail customers confidence in our foods, it is important for us to be proactive and provide quick and accurate answers. Please feel free to email or call Michelle or I with any questions you cannot answer. Unfortunately both of us are travelling today so it may be difficult to reach us. I arrive back in Edmonton this evening and will check emails and messages upon my arrival.

Thank you,
Peter

Thanks for posting. I wonder what irradiation is doing to the food...and if it's having that effect on kitties, what's it doing to people???
