Our Bengal likes ..... Butter???

Our Bengal girl Kia has decided that she likes butter .. of all things .. unsalted butter.

My wife has been doing Christmas backing over the last week or so. Sunday, she walks up to me with a 1/2lb of butter that has claw marks and signs of licking. "Look what your cat did" .. Umm .. dear - she's a Bengal. Not a big surprise right? If it is on the counter and in any way resembles food, its fair game. Kia's rule number 1.

Last night, Kia grabs a whole 1lb block of butter off the counter and merrily has at it. I should note here that there was an attempt to hide it, but that failed miserably. "Your cat got the whole pound this time"

This morning comes along - sitting having coffee and checking the weather forecast. Pitter-patter - jump - paws on counter - bump bump bump - cupboard door is being opened. Damn - its the one where the butter is. (note that the butter was put up on top of the plates in the cupboard this time) KIA - Off the cupboard! 4 paws gracefully land on the kitchen floor. Pitter patter, away she goes. Get up and check - sheepish Bengal looking around the table - wasn't me mom honest. Sit back down drink some coffee.

Wait for a min. Repeat the above steps again. - 3 times before Terri gets up and puts the magical Bengal Magnet Butter in the fridge - dejected Bengal sits looking from across the dining room with a hint of - I know you're gonna take it out of there sometime and its gonna be mine.

I guess the cookies will take a little longer to bake today.

Bill

Doesn't have to be a Bengal to like butter. In fact butter, not margarine, is a great hairball eliminator. Using butter on a regular basis helps to break down the hairballs and they pass with no problem.
Cute story.

I've had quite a few cats over the years and never found one who didn't like butter.

I've never had a cat that didn't like butter Anything on any surface, including the top of the fridge is fair game for a cat, so beware and keep it covered or out of sight. I have a covered butter dish for any butter I want to leave out....it has a heavy glass cover mind you.

Kia is actually the first of our 7 kids to go after the butter. It kinda surprised us, but its good to know that it is good for them. We will have to see if the rest of the herd shows any interest.

Its always entertaining to watch kitty antic's. It can be frustrating maybe at the time, but it always turns into a smile, a shake of the head or a good laugh when all is said and done. It also reminds us why they are a part of the family - hours and hours of cheap entertainment, and a whole lot of lovin.
