TO at Global!

So I was in the Global pet food store in Vaudreuil yesterday and there it was, TO dog food! Not sure if any of you Montrealers want to drive out that far but it's a lot closer than driving to Ontario (it's about 30 mins West of Montreal). Anyway, the price for a large bag of Ocean Blue was $73.99 and the Bison one was $76.99. Just thought I'd pass that along!

Cool! There's another Global in Pointe Claire, so maybe they have it too now. Thanks for the heads up!

If one Global has it then they should all be able to get it.

Has to also be the store owners choice. My local one said she used to carry it, not enough interest and she doesn't want it back.

Can anyone special order it for you guys? There is another feed store near me I went to and generally asked if they had TO, she said no but she could order it and have it in every 2 weeks for me.

I didn't realize my close pet valu would order me solid gold products. They didn't stock them.. Other places might, but they sold it for more than I was picking it off the shelf for at Global..

Not sure I even want to know what a bag would cost to have them order it in if it was a choice..

lol true.

The lady that would special order it for me here said the 16lb would cost me $30. I'm currently paying $34. I'm going to stick with Lucas Ave though because I like him better. Prices are so much higher by you guys.

I tried to special order it but we didn't even have a distributer around here... The only Canadian distributer until recently was in BC.

I know the Global in Vaudreuil boasts about having one of the largest selections of cat and dog food in Quebec; he only got the TO in this week. He is very excellent about doing special orders too, he orders the large bags of Felidae for me. He also doesn't seem to mind carrying a few bags at a time if he's only got a few clients who buy a product regularly, but I'm not sure if all Global stores are like that. Maybe all you Montrealers could get together and ask a Global near you to order it? If they had several requests they might do it.

I was interested in getting the Ocean Blue.. but what's with those high prices? That is the most expensive food I've seen in awhile. I thought Eagle Pack Holistic was bad at $69.99 for a 33lb bag. Wow

Would end up costing me $169 a month.. vs Canidae at $128 a month. Then again though I'm also feeding 2 giant breed dogs.

That's just too big a difference IMO. Canidae is an excellent food and the $40 less per bag can buy an awful lot of dog treats.

My price for the 33lb bag of Ocean Blue is $61.99 and my store also gives a thing that when you spend $200 you get a $20 discount.

Just my opinion and I know other don't agree, but...........

I will stick with my EVO RM for $74.99 for a 28KG bag over the Bison for $76
the price works out about the same but my dogs will get "extra meat" instead of paying that kind of dollars to feed millet and oats(grains) which do not warrant the price they are asking for the food as meat costs more than grain does, I would hate to see what they charge for the Wild and Natural

the big real differences between Canidae and TO bison formula

is TO is made with more exotic fancy ingredients whereas as Canidae ingredients are more common

They both use human grade meats but only the chicken in TO is hormone/steriod free http://www.timberwolforganics.com/s.nl/it.I/id.5/.f

where as Canidae uses only Hormone free, antibiotic free and ethoxyquin free in all their meats also their grains are pesticide free which IMO makes Canidae the truer organic food, http://canidae.com/ingredients/thefinest.html

so Canidae at $57 for a "40 lb" bag is a much better value/quality for the money, I imagine the black Forest TO will even be more costly and is much heavier on the grains than the Canidae
I feel it has recieved to much hype than it truly deserves and there are a lot better quality food for lower prices tags, when I heard all the hype I was really expecting a lot better and found it somewhat disappointing when I read the ingredients lists, now that I see the pricing, it become and even bigger turn off, it is sort of like putting gold plated bumper and mirrors on a Ford Focus and asking $70,000 for it, it is just frills it does not the car run or function any better, and serves no real purpose, so not worth the extra dollars to purchase.

Maybe worth it to those who went from a much poorer quality food to see the difference better nutition can make, but still it could have been done for less or the same but for even much better quality.

OG, it's not about more meat and less meat or whatever. It's about having a food with "exotic" ingredients so that we might have a chance at fixing our dogs with allergies. I can't feed chicken at all. And I can't feed barley and wheat. And Jemma got really disgusting on Evo RM. REALLY disgusting- dandruff flakes of more than 1 cm squared, even with salmon oil supplementation ($$$). So what's next? Right now, she's on Barking at the Moon, despite how I feel about the company because there is NOTHING left for her, other than raw and home cooked which I am not in a position to give right now. And Boo already can't tolerate the BATM.

So what are my options? DVP which has 21% protein and very limited ingredients, or Timberwolf, which has a slew of ingredients, none of which my dog is allergic to yet.

Fine it has more grain. And? So the dog doesn't digest it, and it passes through, and? When I buy a food, I don't buy it for the fiber. I buy it for the meat and other ingredients. Frankly, salmon meal and salmon oil are good ingredients for my dogs. They have done really, really well on them in the past, and instead of paying $75.99+ tax for Evo RM as well as another $30/month on salmon oil to try to get their coats semi-reasonable, I'd rather pay $70whatever and get the wild salmon IN the food already, even if there are grains.

So before you whip out canidae all over the place, there are a ton of dogs out there that can't go near it. And this is the food we look at instead. We would look at the Canidae lamb and rice, but being that there are less than 4 ingredients before the first fat and that increases the risk of bloat, we choose not to take that risk.

I don't know.. I guess I'm just tired of being talked to like I'm a moron for liking a food when my options are so limited.

Dog food is tough. each person has their own reasons for purchasing what ever brand they buy.
I would idealy like to get EVO RM but there is none here, none for MILES the only thing here is EVO. dont know why they carry some but not all?
I am happy with raw, and i know that others are against it, but as far as im concerned im never going back, ( unless i absolutely must)

No one is calling you a moron. As a third party looking at this topic, She is giving her opinion on the two foods. No different then you giving yours. I suspect its more so frustration on your part Prin, and I can understand that. Having a pup with a single allergy is a pita, having two with many allergies is down right cruel to you!

I must say though, you women get so moody

Moody? We are NOT MOODY! Sorry, just kidding, I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant and moody is my middle name these days, my poor husband.

Anyway, I agree that TO is a very high priced food. The original post was intended to let others in the Montreal area know that it is now available in Quebec. I wasn't suggesting that everyone should switch their dogs to it, my guys are on Canidae Lamb and Rice and will stay on it because they do well on it. I do sympathize with Prin though, I have a dog who is allergic to chicken and it is incredibly difficult to find foods without some form of chicken in them. Many of the Lamb formulas have either chicken fat or eggs. I have had all kinds of suggestions from people about what I should and shouldn't feed him, but at the end of the day it is I who has to pick up the mushy poops and clean up the bile barfs when he's on a food he can't tolerate. That's enough to make anyone moody!

Sorry Prin, but my comments were not directed at you. <need an emoticon waving a white flag>

Remember I too have a dog with allergies/intolerances to foods, so I do understand choices have to be made to acommodate an individual dogs needs, at the same time until you try Jemma on it you will have no idea if she will do good on it, especially if it contains ingredients you never tried before or the combo in it's entirety is not agreeable to her or the omega balances does not suit her individual needs, and for Jemmas sake and your happiness I hope it works out for you .

what my concern is the price of the food and the hype that has been created for Timberwof Organics.

Some people are going out and buying because they think it is a better food due to all the hype surrounding it, not everyone has researched and learned to read and understand labels and ingredients as well as you have, some chose a food because it appears popular and therefore think it is the best on the market, and let's face it there has been a lot of hype over Timberwolf Organics here on this board and elsewhere

This food forum should be a place about educating people about foods the good and the bad, so they can make better consumers and better food choices, the final choice is their not mine, And that is what I am doing bring in my own point of view. To me, the food is by no means bad, just very overpriced for it's quality level,

If someone reads my comments and still would rather feed it, feeling Fenugreek, cinnamon bark and figs is better and worth the $20 or $25 more a bag for their healthy dog then that is fine with me, I got no problems with that. They did their reasearch and came to their own conclusions as to what they feel is best

But what would be unfair is not to let people know that other kibbles can be had with as good as , or better quality ingredients for less dollars
and that the latest craze does not necessarily mean better nutrition, the more info they have, the more thought they can make in deciding what is best for them.

Sort of like, I loved how my dogs are doing on EVO RM, but I realize it is a high priced food, not everyone can afford, so when making food recommendation I don't push EVO RM I offer different choices at different price levels that I consider good quality for the money, anyone feeding dog chow would take one look at the price of EVO and saying I am crazy and say forget it, but if I offer foods of different prices like Costcos Kirkland Premium and $23 and Canidae at $50 chances are they will try the Kirkland once they see a difference in coat quality and energy level, it makes them realized that quality of food is important, and if they have the money that change they seen may very well have them thinking just maybe the results will even be better going to a higher priced food like Canidae. But after that higher priced does not necessary mean better, and here is where I will chop off my favorite food, Disadvantage of EVO it is not organic or pesticide free and this is where I have to make a sacrifice to have the grain free or high meat protein diet. One of my dogs is intolerant to grains the other need meats to build her immune system so I had to sacrifice one quality for another at a higher price but I expected to pay more since additional meat does cost more so in that way I do feel I am getting value for the money

Other people buy because it is closer to a raw diet but in an easier to serve form. there is a lot of current research to support that higher meat and grainfree are better for the health of the dog and for them a good reason to pay $75 a bag. But TO's Dakota Bison sells for the same price, it is easy to see the disadvantages, like price and organic quality next to Canidae but much harder to see advantages or justification for paying so much for switching especially considering the bag sizes as well, since nutrition wise it is not that different
other than in the case Prin pointed out where an allergy existed and one had troubles finding an alternative food source. Jemma's allergies seem to be much worse than most dogs have, so rare for someone to have the dig so hard for a food, but the ones I have known like Jemma usually end up being not allergies at all but an underlying medical problem, may find a food that agrees and then a year later problems developed again and a new hunt for food, the last one I know had problems for a few years before the obvious symptoms of cushings developed.the owner even did allergy testing and had a list a mile long some thing about alppears to trigger allergies, some of the common early symptoms can be bladder loss, ear and skin infections, Some have auto immune related problems, the problem is so many health issues can mimic allergies and food changes can often alleviate symptoms temporarily so years go by before the dog is finally diagnosed properly but by then they are usually pretty sick, I would suggest making a diary of what is happening , may help with an earlier diagnosis if it is something else.

I am pursuing the medical aspect at the same time, but there is no doubt in my mind that she can't eat wheat and now barley. No doubt. And there is no doubt that Boo can't eat poultry.

I think the popularity of the TO, or the hype, is about the fish. A lot of people here fed Solid Gold Wolf King, and when the ingredients were switched, we had to switch, and those of us who went off fish were disappointed with the result. So, we started looking for other fishy foods. Fishy foods are also a favorite for picky eaters, and when SG changed wolf king and Just a Wee bit, the flavor changed too (and the pickies started turning their nose up to it too).

The DVP fish and sweet potato is $69+ tax a bag and only has 21% protein (last time I checked), and it's not tasty.

The Barking at the moon is ok, but it has a stool hardener in it (tomato pomace).

The California natural one is wayyyy grainier than all of the above, as is the Go! Natural one.

Slim pickin's for fish.

So when TO has a formula almost exactly like SG WK, but BETTER, we get excited.

(At least this post explains what the hype is about on this particular site...)
