Very sorry to hear the news. I lost a kitty and a friend lost her big boy to bone cancer in the last year, I feel your pain. From experience my Thai let me know when it was time to let go. Just enjoy the time that is left and love him. Gentle belly rubs from me and the gang. Hugs, pets and prayers being sent.

For something as monumental as this i would be seeking a second opinion. Maybe your vet can refer you to a specialist?

I took this picture of Winston last weekend at the beach. You can see the tumor and size pretty good. It is in the area of that red bag holder on his right side.

He looks wonderful, totally oblivious to the ugly cancer...

At nearly 12yrs old,I agree with your decision,I would not put him through any more stressful medical procedures.
Only you know Winston and you will know when he no longer has a good quality of life, until then,I know you'll give him the best of care...to both of you

I probably agree, but seeking a second opinion does no harm. If Winston listens well, and will lay still some vets will ultrasound without anesthetic so that may be an option as well.

I haven't been around in ages and I was dreading reading news like this but, you were there for me when I lost Molly and so maybe something brought me here today to be here for you.

What is there to say? I only wish I could type you up a hug Take each day for what it is and enjoy every moment with Winston, just like you always have Nothing needs to change until, well, it needs to change

Gentle hugs for your boy from us, Winston. So sorry to read of this awful diagnosis. All you can do is love him lots during his remaining time, I think it's absolutely the right thing to not consider such a drastic surgery as that would be. Doubt if I would consider the ultrasound either, the less stress the better.

I'm so sorry Winston but your thinking is bang on and thank dog, dogs are blissfully unaware of these things. I'm still sending out good vibes

Cindy, you are making the right decision. More tests would give you more information, but it would not change the outcome. I totally agree with your decision not to do surgery at Winston's age. I know with my two I wouldn't even consider it. Halo is a lab X and is 11 now and also has a mass growing behind her shoulder. Our vet assures me it's just a fatty lump thank goodness, but even before taking her in, I knew what I would and wouldn't do to her. Winston will be forever greatful to you for the wonderful loving care you have and will give him. He trusts you implicitly and you knows you will do right by him. Hugs to you all at this trying time. Stay the course, it is the right one.

Wishing Winston the best rest of his life that he can have. I know it will be filled with love and devotion. There's time for tears later. Right now it's time to rejoice in his life. Thinking of you both.

I agree with 14+ 110% and more. Prayers and good vibes to you and Winston for longevity and a pain free existence for whatever time he has left. My Raggs was given the cancer diagnosis last December and given less than 30 days to live. I did not consider further testing. nor treatment because at 13+ years I doubted he'd last through it nor through the suggested surgery. I did put him on a homemade diet with all the anti-cancer herbs he could tolerate. He is still alive today, though I do now see some deterioration, but I know he is painfree and happy still. Still eating his homemade diet with relish and interacting with my 4 cats every day. Unfortunately Raggs could not tolerate the herbs I added to his food, but for whatever reason he is still with me. The only way for you to find out what Winston can tolerate is to try adding the herbs to his diet

I'm hoping for the best for Winston, I send you and and for you and a gentle for Winston.

Thank you Lilmac...

Winston has had a rough couple of days..I am waiting to see if there is any improvement and then I may have to make that dreaded call. He has hardly eaten since Sunday. On and off diarrea.

Today was the most difficult for me because he looked so beyond tired and like he was hurting. He is having some difficulty with his back legs and I am so worried he is going to fall down the stairs. I gave him some extra yummies in his food tonight and he ate the yummies (potato's) and that was it.

The tumor is getting larger and because he has been loosing weight its more noticeable. I am just wondering if he is in pain???

I know I dont have long....
