Question Puppy Play-Opinions Needed!

Well some of you may know, our Mollie is 10 weeks old. My daughter's boyfriend just adopted a 9 week old Blue Heeler puppy this week and they are anxious for DH and I to see "him." They are planning to bring the new little guy to our house and I have concerns!

Is it o.k. for 2 different puppies from different litters to meet each other at such an early age AND is there any risks of the little heeler guy getting into something (such as Mollie) that he shouldn't be in?

Far from them sniffing each other, should I be this concerned at 9 & 10 weeks old?

Frankly, klm, until both pups have their next set of needles, I wouldn't let them meet. Much safer to let them meet after vaccinations... And if you go to see bf's new pup, make sure you wash up well afterward. Some diseases, like parvo, can be transmitted on clothing.

I'd tell them no. You know nothing about the other pup's litter--if they were exposed to parvo, for example, he could pass it on to Mollie before her immunity is up to snuff. I wouldn't let them meet till they were about 4-5 months...

Thanks Hazel for the comments. I called our vets office this morning (with DH in the same room) and they recommended exactly what you said.

So I called my daughter and advised her not to bring Oakley to the house until all shots were up to date AND I didn't want him to be introduced to Mollie until either one of them were fixed!

She was a little disappointed but understood the logic (and so did DH!)

WHEW!

I'm glad you worked this out. Neither Mollie or Oakley needs to catch anything from each other. They will have plenty of chances to meet when both have all of their shots and are S&N.
