Should Canada allow contraceptives for dogs and cats?

Pretty interesting I think!

I asked my Vet about one when my boy was a pup. Not one in the article, I think it was Neutrasol? Something like that. I could find nothing to confirm but it was, at the time, no longer available in N. America, and he said reports were of gross damage to testicles, infection and pain exhibited. It doesn't exactly say in the link above where the stuff would be injected but the one I asked about was injected into the testicles.

I agree it sounds almost ideal for near feral dog populations, and cats, but not if they are going to live out the rest of their lives damaged and suffering. I think it needs more study. Do the testicles shrivel up? If not how will we know a dog was "done"? How will we tell with females, if there is one for females? It would be nice to just look at a feral dog or cat and see, and at least with some males castration allows that.

It would be great to use on the rabbits living around my condo. We have rabbit poop everywhere now.

yeah I agree that there are still questions to ask - but seems like it will do a lot of good.
