A normal feeling?

So we have a chance to get a pure bred, Solid black female German shepherd from my moms old boss. She's one year old and UTD on all shots and already fixed.. They will be giving her to us for free..

Great news right? Im super excited but.

I feel so guilty. In the back of my mind I feel terrible. I feel as if im replacing casey and ugh. Its only been six days but this amazing oportunity has come along and My parents WANT HER TOO.

We are making the final decision today. Gotta tell ya Im nervous my mom will say no when the time comes. But i know its no use for her to. She is only prolonging the inevitable(sp?).. My brother only found out about casey last night (He works away in alberta).. He was pretty upset.. And he told mom there is nothing she can do to stop him from getting me my own big dog now.

But that feeling of guilt is there... And Im just pushing it aside because I do want this so bad.

What a wonderful opportunity...like it was meant to be...I think sometimes these golden opportunities are sent to us when we need them most. Think of it as a blessing from Casey....a pet never wants us to be sad...their whole lives are about pleasing us.
Thinking of you in whatever your decision is.

Well said, Shirley.

Casey would want you to give the love that you have to another dog, don't think of it as "replacing" Casey, but giving the chance for another dog to experience the love that you can give to a dog. Casey would approve.

Good luck!

You may feel a bit guilty but think about what might happen to this dog if you didn't take her. If they are willing to give her away for free where would she end up if someone else took her? She won't replace Casey because every dog is differenteven if they are of the same breed. As long as you don't try to turn her into Casey, and love her for who she is you will be making this one very happy dog (and I'm sure you will do this) Good luck whatever happens, Babymomma.

Thanks for the suport everyone.. I do feel it was ment to be.. It happened so randomly .. It was my birthday just aftter i left the spca my mom ran into her old boss in the mall and they got to talking and mom mentioned I just came from the spca.. So her ex boss asked if we were looking for a dog and she said her son had two GSD's .. A 2.5 year old black and tan male and a 1 year old black female. He has been doing a crate and rotate for six months. Rudy The male is terribly aggressive towards the female, Jo-Jo. So he has decided, now that he is moving back to ottawa and will be in an appartment where crate and rotate will be next to impossible, to give her up. Rudy was there first and I can understand why he would be trying to find her a new home.

He was asking 200 dollars for her but because of who we are they are waving the adoption fee. She needs a home and we have one. He isnt just giving her away. We are going through a series of interviews even though they both know we'd be a good home. (my mom and her ex boss were very good friends, still are but they are distant) ..

if we get her i want to change her name.. Any suggestions? I dont like Jo-Jo as a call name for some reason. I was thinking Raven or something.
My dad likes the name Chico, but feels its better suited for a boy.

You are very lucky to have this opportunity, babymomma! Raven is a great name...

Babymomma, you will never replace Casey. Sadly, she is no longer with you, but I think she would want you to be there for another dog in need. I think it would make her happy to know you are happy.

You do know that sometimes the parents don't let the kids take their pets with them when they move out of the house because they become too attached

Both parents are in agreement with getting the dog.. If the Co-owner Makes her decision we will be meeting her Wednesday and If keely and her get along she will be coming home then as well..

This dog is just TOO perfect.

She is a Long haired german shepherd, meaning she has no undercoat. So the shedding will be at a minimal. Which is good news because now mom will let her sleep with me if we can have her!

(Before anybody gets confused or thinks im getting on with a bunch of BS, because most people dctually dont know this(And to be honest a year ago if somebody told me their GSD wouldnt shed I would have not believed them, They are, after all, nicknamed german shedders) . But the True long coated GSD's do not have an undercoat.. Now, you CAN get a long haired STOCK coat with is the long haired shepherd WITH the undercoat.. these are the ones you see most of the time. both are faults in the show world however. )

You can't replace an animal. Just think of it as rescuing another one.
I've never felt like I was replacing my animals that died when I got another one. They all have their own unique personality and one will never be the same as the others.

Awwwww bm I'm so sorry.

Do u think that maybe your mom would like u get a GSD puppy? That way your mom would know the puppy from babyhood so when it gets bigger she wouldn't be afraid of it?

My sil was scared of dogs and they got a doberman pup as my brother wanted one. Because Duke came into the house as a puppy she was not scared of him and actually when they split up she took the dog!
