Hi, babymomma. You know the rules--if you've been away, we need updated pictures! I don't see any! So? Where are they?

And we need the low down on the possible newcomer, as well.

Welcome back! I missed seeing you on the board (okay, I missed the Keeley and Casey pictures)
No new four legged pets here, but I may soon be adding some with fins.

Everything is great with the doggies and the kitty and myself. Jasper was recently fixed and still healing up from that :P

I may be adding a Australian shepherd pup. He will be a Herding/Agility Prospect and of course a compnian first and formost. Not sure if we are yet but seriously looking into it . WOndering how much different having three dogs will be from having just the two :P Of course i am overanalysing and making sure i am making an informed decision rather then rushing into it. I just want to make sure keely and casey dont mind sharing their momma time .

Australian shepherds are pretty. Make sure you do your homework about merle genetics before you get one with that coat pattern. It's such a pretty coat pattern, but can have serious health consequences. There's debate on how much it actually disrupts health when the dog has only one copy of the gene, but it's apparently possible that even a single merle gene can cause future health problems.
You probably already know this, but merle is spreading into more and more breeds lately, and the dogs with it are so pretty that breeders keep breeding merles despite the possible side effects.
This isn't meant to discourage you, just to give you more to think about before you make the final decision. New puppies are always fun. If you do get one we need pictures of Keely's, Casey's and Jasper's reactions to a new puppy!

Oh i have done all my research on the merle coat pattern. And to be honest, im not picking my puppy on coat color or coat pattern but by which one suits us and our family better. Also the breeder will be helping us with the pick as im sure he wont let us take a dog home if it isnt the correct fit, i know how strict he is about his puppy buyers. If the perfect match happens to be a merle then i wont be too worried as i know he would never in a million years do a double merle crossing.

did you consider...adopting?

Hi Babymomma!

I just can't help but ask... did you look in the local shelters for an Australian shepherd pup!

Sometimes shelters have breed dogs who are looking for a home...
It may take a little more time, and you may be on a waiting list, but it's always nice to give a second chance to a pet!

Some breeders also offer adoption for dogs who are not ''prospects'', but who can make excellent pets!
Depending on how strongly you want your future dog to be a ''Herding/Agility prospect'', it may be worth looking into!

I am a strong advocate for adoptions in shelters, and for rescued animals , so I just taught I would mention it!

As for having 'one more'... well I have 8 cats, and with time and patience, it is possible to introduce a 'newcomer' to the family...depending on their characters, unless you have a very dominant pet already, I don't think it will be a problem, as long as you take things slow!

I am looking forward to hear about the new member of your family!

And yes, pictures are always enjoyed!

Adopting a breed that isnt common in newfoundland? yea, that will never happen. lol
Plus im not allowed to adopt from a sgelter regardless of how great of a pet owner i am, simply because im 19 and my yard isnt fenced So no, Adoption wont work for me, and i do believe in adoption and recommend it but even if I coud adopt i am looking for a dog that will have a specific job and with this breeder i know i will be getting what i want with the right temperment and less worry about genetic disorders that would make us unable to compete and do agility. Like i said, rescuing is great just wont work for me in this circumstance..
