Hyperthroid Cat Ear Gel - Handling Precautions?

Anybody used this? Did you follow the handling instructions or do you think they were excessive? My instructions are to wear gloves, put the dab of gel on a little wee spoon that came with and rub into the clean ear with the back of the spoon. Wash spoon, remove gloves, wash my hands thoroughly.

Obviously since it's transdermal it could go into my own body through my own skin. And I'm hypothyroid so it would counteract my own thyroid medicine.

But it would be so much easier to just put the dab of gel on my gloved finger and rub into the cat's ear with that. Skip the little spoon. Too risky for me?
