dog meets cat poopoo

Why do some dogs eat cat poop? Maggie just came up to me lickin her chops and i noticed that her breath had a uh .... ode de cat poopoo about it. hmm I guess since the really love cat food then it would just be natural for them to like the poop too??

that is just so gross

Unhappy

I don't know why they do it but it's pretty disgusting. I only had to spank my Mitzie twice in 8 years and both times it was because she ate cats poo from the box. Then, she'd come and jump up in my lap and try to lick my face. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! I HATED doing that but nothing else work. I found it to be disgusting and unsanitary. She stopped after the second spanking. It broke my heart to spank her. But she stopped doing it after the second spanking. I didn't beat her, just 2 quick spanks with my hand. I had tried everything else but she was smart. She only ate it after it was dried, thank goodness.
I think they must eat it for minerals or food they smell.

Most dogs will eat the poo of other animals (cat, horse, other dogs) or even their own. Coprophagia is pretty common...I know both our dogs will eat cat poo if given the opportunity (we call them "cat treats" in our house, yucko). It's pretty nasty, but if it's available, they'll do it.

Our house too, Dazy will snack out of the litter box if given the chance! It usually comes up just as fast as it goes down. YUK! But she doesn't eat other dog poo or her own. She will eat rabbit terds and cow patties a plenty tho!

I try to make sure i catch her or my sisters puppy as the head towards the cat box to tell them no. but sometimes they can be sneaky and get into it anyways. ugh its just about the nastiest thing.... but i am very glad that they dont eat their own poop. i could see that being even worse!

Aaaack, isn't it gross? My Greys will eat any poo, cat, dog, their own. It's so disgusting. I came home one night to find that I hadn't closed the gate on the stairs properly. One or both of the dogs had gotten upstairs and ate all of the poops and most of the kitty litter itself. Benny didn't feel too good for a few days after that so I know he was the main culprit but Sophie has a poop addiction of her own too. YECK!

Disgusting is right - but one of mine will eat any poo she can! YUK... I haven't found anything that will stop her either - I have tried just about everything - short of spanking - maybe I should give that one a try... I've turned my back on her - told her no - diverted her attention - and more.. if anyone has a solution I'd sure like to hear it!

Just a few sites that may give insight to why dogs eat poop, warnings about why they shouldn't eat cat poo out of litter boxes, etc. Interesting reading

My dog does it to (actually all my dogs have), when we took her to stay at a Dog friendly resort/farm, she went crazy eating horse poo & rolling in kangaroo & wombat poo. Thank god they had a nice river flowing through the place, she spent a lot of time in there. Thats another thing dogs love to do, roll in something awfull, I've tried everything to stop her doing it, but now that she knows I'm on to the "signs" of impending grossness, she has developed a "Judo" roll, just flips over on her back & goes for it. http://www.pets.ca/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
It's hard to be angry at them though, they just look so happy afterwards

Lol, mmm pleasant. We put our chinchilla in an exercise ball to roam around safely, and my terrier x will follow along behind sucking up all the little poops. Nice to know i'm in good company.
