she went crazy when she saw hubs and I and the vet tech couldn't hold her back, we had to try to hold her down to get the leash on her. once home she was over excited and I had to climb in the pen to hold her still, took over an hour to get her to just sit in one place, she doesn't like her pen at all, hubs had to go to shoppers drug mart to pick up the painpills /sedative, we let her have some rice/hamburg, her pain pilll and finally, after 2 hours of whining etc she's now sleeping quietly......guess I'd better get use to life on the floor and in the pen for the next few days *S* thanks all for your interest and well wishes.

I'm so glad she's home with her people. What a good mommy you are to sleep in her pen with her. Hopefully after a short while she'll get the hang of it and you'll be able to "get out of jail". Will you be able to put the pen in your bedroom at night or will you need a matt in the pen?? Hugs to you all. You're all going to need them.

its like a gated puppy pen, so I'll open it wide and slide my blow up bed against it so my bed makes a "wall" she will be able to sleep right up against me like we do on our bed.

Dog dancer, unfortunately it won't fit in our bedroom , its an 18 foot long "fencing" we can bend to fit together so its quite large. I'll try to post pics tomorrow of the set up

Holy catz, Melinda! Does that bring back memories of when we had Priscilla's hip replacements done! We blocked her off in the kitchen and the first thing she wanted to do was jump over the barricade to get out!!! Sigh....hard to explain to them why they can't do it!!

Hope she stays settled now that the excitement of getting home is over. Hope you get some sleep tonight!

I know how stressful the first few days after joint surgery are, Melinda! Hope all is going smoothly and you're getting a little relaxation time squeezed in with the medical observation! You be good, Brina, and do what your mommy tells you!!!!

the pain meds make her sleepy, so I get some "clean up around the house time" she seems extra hungry? is this normal???
thought I'd show you some pics of her "bedroom"

this is what happened when I set up my bed and went to change into pjs

a bone to keep her quiet in her "feeling good" times.

this morning when I went to make a coffee

Great recovery ward, Melinda! That leash will be your best tool--I had Priscilla strapped to my waist through 3 surgeries and 22 weeks all told. o.O But it did the trick in keeping her quiet!

How long is the recovery period expected to be? And will you need to do some sort of therapy with her?

on day 4 (monday) we can start some simple 3 point rotation "stretches" with her and then day 6 we had a fourth....we have a therapist that will work with us if need be, we go to get the staples out friday and she'll see me then to have a talk and look at the range Brina has by that time, complete complete rehab takes up to 4 months. but the bone should be heeled by week 8 and at that time she will be sedated "heavily" and xrayed so they can check.

oh , and on a side note (cause you don't see it happen often) we were given a quote, low up to high , but the actual price of the surgery was 260. less than the lowest estimate!
