Hi there :)
Hi, just registered for this site and already seeing lots of great posts!
Huge animal lover here and have had dogs and cats and other pets all my life. Presently living up in a northern community and have two lovely rescue pups. Looking forward to reading good info that may be helpful to the many situations we encounter in a northern community with no vet service for 250km. Also have a unique situation with one of my rescues and interested in seeing if anyone has any suggestions! For now, here are my two babies: Sierra, a Shepherd cross, band Niska, a Husky. |

Hi ! You score high points here by posting your beautiful furry family and we didn't have to beg for them. Is there a traveling vet around you?
When I lived in Northern Ca. there was a traveling vet and he drove around seeing if anyone pet needed care. I saw some web sites for traveling vets in Calgary Canada , there could be some more traveling vest around |

Thank you both for the compliments! They are great dogs, good looks and unique personalities lol
There is a travelling vet that goes to 1-2 communities up here, however in the town that I live in, we have been lucky enough to establish a phenomenal relationship with the vet college down south, and have been hosting spay/neuter and wellness clinics twice a year for the past few years. It's amazing- they come up for 4 days with a team of 30 vets, techs, assistants, students and an anesthesiologist, and transform the community hall into an operating theatre. It's quite spectacular, we are so fortunate to have gotten to this point, and are really starting to notice the impact it's making on the community in terms of education, awareness, advocacy, people taking better care and responsibility of/for their pets, and of course the dog and cat population overall. This is a reality due to the hard work of a non profit humane society (I have sat on their board of directors for about a year now) that has been pushing forward through all the challenges in northern communities for a few years now! |
