Would "Wellness CORE" bee too much for an indoor cat?

Was wondering if "Wellness CORE" dry formula would de too much for an indoor cat or would it be better to go with an indoor specific food?

It would be better if you fed your cat the canned Wellness and then supplement with the Wellness CORE kibble if necessary.

Absolutely agreeing with rainbow! Go with canned, and whatever you do, stay away from any and all "indoor" or "light" kibble formulas. These are loaded with way too many carbohydrates for an obligate carnivore. And if your cat is male, I suggest you eliminate all the dry. Cats really don't need it, they need the moisture from wet food, but male cats especially! They are prone to urinary tract blockages, which occur when urine is concentrated from not enough water intake. Canned food ensures they get that water. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been so short with my question and should have explained my situation better.

With summer here my work hours are extremely long, sometimes I'm gone from 7am-8pm so I am looking for something I can leave out as a snack for him while I'm gone. His main diet is Wellness Canned Chicken Formula(Grain Free) and he eats in the morning while I'm getting ready and at night when I get home. It's just that I feel guilty for leaving him home for so long that I need to have something down as a snack for him.

So I was wondering if the Wellness CORE would be too much for an indoor cat or would it be just fine as a snack while I'm gone long days?

I think it depends on the cat and if that cat controls it's appetite and if the cat will then only want kibble rather than canned. Canned is so much better for them and will not go bad if it is fresh in the mornings and any left overs are thrown out when you get home and re-fed with fresh. My cats have previously been fed only twice a day and they were fine (have to do it 3 times now but that's another story).

Awesome! Sorry to jump to conclusions, it's just statistically most cats are fed dry food only.

Depending on his eating habits, you can actually leave canned food out during the day (that's what I do). If he gobbles it all up in one sitting, that may not work, but what about an automatic feeder? Or, you can freeze small portions of wet food in an icecube tray and then plunk down a cube or two before you head off to work.

As long as at least 75% or your cat's diet is wet food, a small amount of dry won't be a huge issue, but in my oh-so-humble opinion, I think cats are better off without any kibble. Core would certainly be preferable to an "indoor" variety, just be careful with portion control because it is higher in calories.

My cat's really like it.. I agree with everyone else to not over feed the dry food. I'd only leave out a half cup a day for one cat.

My parent's over feed my cats dry food and one is extremely over weight and the other is starting to have a saggy belly....

My kittens really like the wellness core because it's in smaller pieces then blue buffalo

1/2 cup would be way too much for one cat that also eats canned food. Wellness Core is over 500 calories per cup (535), so if we're talking about an average 10lb cat requiring somewhere around 20-30 cal/lb/day, that half a cup provides the entire daily calorie allotment. I suggest not feeding more than 2 tablespoons per day. If any.

Am I right in assuming that maybe I'm being a little silly and shouldn't even bother getting some dry food for the long days? I know I can't leave any canned down for the day because he would just eat it all in one sitting. Right now he's eating half a 12oz can in the morning and the rest at night. His last vet check last month had him at about 14lbs and the vet said he looked really good.

After some of the suggestions I'm starting to wonder if I'm just being a little bit of a worry wort for nothing. He's just my pal and as it is I hate the thought of him being home alone for so long that the last thing I want is for him to go hungry as well.

You know, I'm betting he probably just sleeps for the most part. But how about this for an idea: get a couple of these Play-N-Treat balls and put a few healthy treats (like freeze dried Real Food Toppers) or catnip in them. Once he figures out that there are goodies to be had from batting the treat ball around, leave them in strategic places while you're gone. That should provide at least a bit of mental stimulation combined with some snackage.

Hah, that's alot. No wander my cat's such a porker.

Not trying to hijack, but my mom just upgraded the food bowl

*3lb kitten for comparison. say hi to franklin! my foster.

She refills it to nearly the top every morning, against my wishes.

Someone call her and please explain to her that she's going to kill my damn cat if she keeps over feeding her like this. The cats nearly 16 pounds and not even 2 years yet! Her brother has got a bigger frame then her and is 14 pounds, her sister is 8lbs and her mom is 9lbs.

That sounds like a great idea. I think I will stop off at petcetera on my home tonight and have a look at what they have.

Thanks to you and everyone for the help

That's an awfully big bowl!

My cat's are each getting 1/2 cup dry Innova Evo a day, after reading up on this website I'm switching them back to wet! I only switched them to all dry because Squeaks didn't like the Wellness canned and they both liked the Innova Evo..so it was just simpler that way
