hungry puppy?
Hi there...My pug pup is now 13 weeks old..he was originally on royal canin puppy 33..he seemed very itchy..so about 3 weeks ago..i cahged his food to Natural balance duck and potatoe..his scratching has pretty much disappeared!!!My problem is..im not sure what was causing the itchying..im thinking either the chicken or the grains..natural balnce has neither...but he seems to be starving all the time.Royal cannin had 33 % protein and Natural balance has 22% protien..i was thinking of switching to origen,,as i have now found at at my local pet food store..but it has 42% protein..which im thinking might help with the hunger problem. But im confused as to go with puppy food(which contains chicken) which im not sure if he is allergic to...or to go with the adult fish ..which has neither foods that i suspect?Any advice would be great!

I feed Natural Balance Duck & potato It's a great food.
Has he been checked for worm's? I would just feed him alittle more food or add canned or Roll.

he may be itchy from dry skin, my dog gets itchy if he's on crappy food and his skin gets right dry, higher quality foods have lots of healthy oils in them that help keep the condition of their skin and coat in check.
If your concerned about a chicken alergy, you can get sample bags of orijen, Also, orijen 6 fresh fish is almost identical to the puppy food as far as protein goes. 6 fresh fish which is chicken free is 44%, puppy is 42%, so I think it would be fine just to give him the 6 fresh fish, the kibble size is way bigger which would be a problem for a pug, so just put hot water on it and it turns right soft and gravy like. you can get sample packs of orijen for 2.00's at many petshops so you can experiment with the regular puppy and fresh fish to see if he gets a alergic reaction to either, just mix it with the natural balance. Also if natural balance works for you, it is a good food, so maybe just stick with what's going well for you. |

Thanks for the advice...i think i may just stick to what is working...and may just try to feeding him a little more,i also think im going to try the bigger kibble that way his food won't disappear in a mtter of seconds!..Perhaps then he will chew his food...lol.

how much and how often are you feeding this pup? pups generally eat 2-3 meals a day. smaller, more frequent meals work better for pups. easier to digest, easier for owners to judge puppy potty habits and schedules, easier to keep hungry pups satisfied, etc...
if the new food is working, I'd stick with it. |

I feed him twice a day..usually at 8 am and then again at 5 he gets 3/4 of a cup at each feed...keep in mind that he is a pug and pugs are notorious for being food savages...i just feel bad when he starts looking at me and whining in the kitchen where his food is..
