How long is too long when it comes to bearing a grudge?
It's interesting to observe Sola now that she has recovered from the throat stabbing. She won't go near sticks, and she's afraid of her water bowl. She drank just after the hole was ripped in her throat, and I think it hurt so badly that she suspects the water bowl itself. Any other bowl is fine.
I'm sure she will find a way to forget this with time, and that's a good thing, because I don't know if I'll ever recover from this one. Does your dog remember unpleasant experiences long after they have passed? I'm hoping to help Sola avoid a phobia.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My dog did what sounds like the same thing many years ago. She had no long term mental issues with it. She did have to have several operations after the initial operation as they missed clearing a splinter out of her throat and it infected and was a nightmare. She never felt the same way about the vet again, but she didn't have a fear of sticks or anything. For Sola if it's just that one water bowl that bothers her, change it. I wouldn't force the issue, but you could always just leave a stick by her water bowl and see how she copes. But honestly, I am sure she'll get over it in time. Get her a new bowl is all.

She'll get over it in time. I agree with Dog Dancer to just change the bowl. You can also try to desensitize her by showing her the stick. She will do just fine.

Good to hear she has gotten back to normal. Mine still wanted to play with sticks after her puncture, but I was waaaay to nervous to let her. Even with the two I have now, we avoid the sticks - I tell them they have enough bark in them already.
