Jasper has a problem with his third eyelid?

Just this evening something weird is going on with Jasper's third eyelid on his right eye. It does not look swollen, but when his eyes are completely open the third eyelid covers about a third of his eye. It does seem to both him, as he seems to be blinking more with that eye. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I will take him to work with me tomorrow.

Jasper has a

I had a Great Dane many years ago and he had this problem also but with both eyes. If I remember correctly the vet called it his 'haw' and they were successfully removed with surgery but am not even sure if that surgery is still done as this was about 40 yrs. ago.

I would want him evaluated for a foreign body. If there is something stuck, it can raise the third eyelid and be irritating (thus the blinking). Even if it resolves, having a quick evaluation by the vet is a good idea. Sometimes if there was something there which comes out on its own, there may be a scratch on the cornea (clear portion). If this is the case, then antibiotic drops and possibly pain medication can help this heal and prevent a larger problem.

Other possibilities include topical irritation, blunt trauma (walking into something), allergies (usually this occurs bilaterally but not always), etc.

I hope this helps.

False warning exam was good, my vet even did a fluo test but nothing came up. She thinks he may just have had some dust or similar irritating his eye that evening. yay! (sigh of relief inserted here)
