Butter or margerine??

When making home made cookies for dog treats, can you use margerine instead of butter??

The recipe calls for 1 oz of butter... and I would like to know if margerine can be used instead, or is there something else??

i would guess that depends on your philosophy or desire to go out and shop for somethign special for them. butter is made from cows, margarine is made from... veggies. the proteins will be different? i dont see what either would hurt in a normal healthy animal. i would look and see if there isnt a difference in people cooking, maybe you need a touch more? less??

Should be no difference as long as you use the "hard" or stick margerine, not the soft spreadable kind in the plastic containers.
