Question Why do so many cat have kidney-failure?

It seems to me,kidney-failure is the most common disease in cats, why is this happening??
Is it the food,environment,or what?
With my Rocky, who has HyperT,the vet thinks he has either cancer or kidney-disease.
Rocky has always drunk a lot of water, eats canned food(Wellness)why kidney-disease??
Could it be the Tapazole??

Winstons cat Bomber is in kidney-failure as have so many other cats been on our Forum....what are we doing wrong???

I think it has more to do with cats generally living longer because of improved veterinary care and the increasing tendency to keep them indoors, so as cats age, renal issues become more common. It's probably the leading cause of death in older cats. I do think a lifetime of dry food doesn't help, but it's certainly not the only factor and it doesn't effect every cat. Here is a good overview of CRF (except for the part about low-protein diets):

Many older people have a degree of renal insufficiency/renal failure as well... as SCM says above, people live longer too now due to better health care, etc.

People/vets are also becoming more aware of different treatment options & supportive care rather than just euthanizing right away.

It's not the Tapazole
