Uneven Doggie Ears

I have a question for everyone, my dog Hank has two completely different ears. He is a mutt so we have figured that one is a pseudo lab/shepard ear and the other is a husky ear. When we first got him they were both flopped down but now one stands straight up and the other goes up when he is excited but still has a bit of a flop. The one that is mostly down (and a bit to the side...he is a funny looking guy!) is about an inch longer than the other ear! He is almost 6 months old now and I am just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this happening or if you think the other ear will stand up?

i havent had any experiences with this myself, but since he is a mix, id say its normal. i know dgs can have any combinations, both up, both down, one up one down, sometimes up, sometimes down, i think it just is different for every dog.

I've seen pups with one floppy ear and one that stands up, too. And I just looked at your pic of Hank and the look is just as cute on him as it was on those other dogs!!! The other ear may still decide to stand up, though--sometimes it takes close to a year before they decide what they really want to do.

Hehe, as any good puppy mother would, I will love my Hanky no matter what his ears turn out like. He is just a goofy loving guy I have just never seen another dog that looks quite like him, even though he had 8 brothers and sisters when he was born. He is the kind of dog that always get's attention even when the cars drive past and the ears are always a topic that people comment on (after the blue eyes of course). We noticed within the first month that his ears were different and it was always good for a chuckle

I am loving this forum, everyone is really fantastic

Maybe take some popsicle sticks, tape them to his floppy ear and make them stand up?

When I was a kid we got a GSD puppy, and her right ear took a really long time to stay standing up, it would go back and forth LOL.
My Mom has min-pins, and one of them has floppy ears when he is tired or sad, and other than that they always stand up. So I think it's sometimes just unique to the dog!

It can be very difficult to get natural looking ears on a sheltie, a lot need propping and taping or they may be too heavy and flop, or too strong(in the cartilage) and prick. The ideal for them is just the tip of the ear tipped over. 6 months isn't too late to try and help Hank get his up, although I didn't succeed with Matthew and it doesn't bother me. It is annoying that one got so high while the other stayed down though.

My inlaws have a GSD who's now 4 years old, and his one ear never stood up. At first we laughed about it, but now it's one of my favorite things about him - adds a little extra character, you know?
I actually think he looks kinda funny now if I make both his ears stand up.

poor pups, the things we do to them....
