Raw & Cats

We are thinking of finally moving our cats over to raw.

We'll probably go with Nature's Variety raw patties.. but for those of you who currently feed raw to your cats, how do you go about your feeding schedule?

Currently, we leave canned food out in the morning when we go to work. Feed again around supper, and then top it off a bit more before bed. It's like free feeding I suppose but both cats are really at ideal weight, and it works for us. I guess I'm wondering if we can do that same routine with raw..? I know it's best to put down and pick up if they don't finish, but they both eat so well on our current system that I don't want to change both the food AND their schedule. Is there any harm in leaving raw out during the day for them to eat at their leisure (given I'm already doing that with the canned stuff?)

Thanks!

I've left raw out for several hours without any issues. There does reach a point when the cats decide it's unappetizing, but they've certainly still eaten it well beyond the half hour max that some people adhere to.

My feeding regime is to give 2 raw meals a day, which is typically eaten within the hour (if not all at once), and then to also leave out some canned for free-feeding.

Would it help to put some ice in a bowl then put the cat food bowl on top the ice to keep it cold .

Thank you! We're going to give a try sticking with the same schedule we have now and see how it goes. I also like the idea of giving some canned as well (maybe for the overnight meals to keep them full and out of mischief!). I'm sure hoping they will take to it this time - they sure do love the raw chicken and pork we give Loki these days
