Cat scratches everything!

My cat Kalou will jump up onto our bookshelf and just start scratching in one place, and he does the same thing if there are papers on the ground or on a table (he will dig in one place with his paws). He doesn't do any damage but he could literally be sitting there digging in one place for 5 minutes and I just want to know if that is normal.

Does anyone know why he might be doing this??

Play time! Chasing the light from a narrow beam flashlight is lots of fun too!

Yep, he definitely has some energy to burn so both those suggestions are good.

You can also get one of those sticks with feathers on the end and if you look in the pet stores there are lots of other toy options as well.
