Cooking a turkey tomorrow
I've got a turkey thawed to cook tomorrow.
Prior to putting it in the oven, what would be the easiest pieces to take off to give to the pets as a treat ? I'm pretty sure that the "giblets" (whatever they are) are in the turkey. Maybe a wing for Pugsley ? Would that be too big ? Giblets for the cat ? Any ideas ?

The cats would love the organ meats, ohhh yummy. I give the turkey neck to my dog but she is a much bigger dog...so I won't comment on what parts to give a little dog. I steer away from the organ meats with the dog though, to rich.....but I know the kitties would love you for a snack like that.
I just reread my post, I steer away from the organ meats with her (not saying all dogs), I have just found by trial and error my girl gets the super squirts if she eats them. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

My mom just made a turkey too! She's got a miniature poodle, and he got all the giblets, and she uses a meat cleaver to break the neck down into manageable pieces. Wings are good, too.

there should be a neck, gizzard and a liver in there. if youre lucky maybe the heart too! id let pugsley take what he wants from the neck, cut up the liver between them, same with the gizzard. feed the heart to the cats for their taurine and maybe snip off the ends of the wing tips for whoever is interested in them.

Okay - bird is in the oven !
Pugsley made short work of part of the neck and wing, but wouldn't touch the piece of liver I gave him. He's thrilled with his treat - he loved it, and sniffed around for more. Butterscotch seems to be turning her nose up at what she's been given - piece of liver, wing meat (no bone) and a small piece of the neck. The pieces are just sitting in her dish, and she's meowing at me.

Misti loves liver and other innards, any raw meat in fact. Spoutnik is still trying to see if it doesn't require killing first!
The dogs ... well, a neck would last 2 minutes with Sheba, 12 with Dani who is more of a princess. Maybe I should buy a turkey? |
