What Breed??

My neighbours have a dog and I dont know what breed (neither do they) I dont have a picture but he is about 40lbs pure black an looks like an American Eskimo, his tail curls right over his back. I would say American Eskimo but I think he is to big and the wrong color!!!

He is protective of his yard but we give him treats over the fence all the time (we talked to the neighbours first) and he is always gentle when taking them. He's a digger but I think that because he is bored and restless. He barks and howls, has long hair that they keep shaved, and thats all I can remember about im right now!

Any ideas on his possible breed????

Just wondering because Im going to see if they will give up their dog to my uncle on an acreage, but he needs to know the breed before he can decide to take it. Long story short they are bad owners and Im tired of it.

Thanks!

Sounds like a Schipperke to me, but then he shouldn't have a tail and he would be smaller.

So forget what I said, he's more probably a mix of some kind...

It's hard to figure out what the actual breed is without a pic.

Is there any way you can get one?

From your description I'm guessing a Chow mix. Does he have a blue tongue?

I was going to say Chow mix, too. Schipperke's are much smaller (10-12lbs) and have no tail. A pic would help a whole lot.

I doubt that this dog is either of the breeds.Reason being is that they are both way over 40lbs.....
